Re-aligning Headlamp Cluster

Featured Replies

Morning All,

Just replaced the pi$ poor original fit low beam bulb with a H7 Osram Nightbreaker Plus (£19.99 including postage from autobesttbuy.co.uk!) I am struggling to re-align the headlamp cluster with the front wing. The white plastic nut is on tight and everything else appears okay, but I cannot to get it tight against the wing!

It's not the end of the world as the car is going to the dealer for some warranty work (front parking sensor has fallen out of its housing), it's just that I would rather be able to fix the thing myself without having to go to a dealer everytime I need to change a lamp!

Also, is there any way that I can adjust the beam height as it seems to be just a little low. I don't have Maxidot as it would appear that you can adjust EVERYTHING with Maxidot! lol

Many thanks in advance.

Make sure that the headlamp unit is correctly lined up in the guide rail and also check that you do not have the cable trapped behind the unit stopping it going fully home. There is an adjuster for beam height at the back of the headlamp unit , you can use an allen key or a phillips screwdriver to adjust. make a note of the number of turns that you adjust them so if things do not improve you can put them back to where you were originally. If your beam is way out recheck that the new bulb is correctly seated in the headlamp unit before making adjustments. If you have the headlamp level switch on dashboard check this is in correct position.

I found that if the release hook was pulled all the way out, it stopped the lamps lining up as they should. Try pushing the hook in 5mm or so before lining the lamp up on the rail and pushing back in.

Hi

Just changed the bulbs in mine a few weeks ago.

I found that a spray of some silicine spray (Simoniz back to black or even some furniture polish) along the bits that the light unit slides into on the car and along the slide bits on the light unit helped the light unit slide right back in to the correct position no problem.

Also, spraying the lever helped it go back into position once the light unit was in and the white plastic nut was tightened up by hand - note that the light unit moved in a bit when the plastic nut iwastightened so tighten the nut before you put the lever back in.

Just changing the bulbs should not adjust the beam direction / level. If it was ok before you changed the bulb, it should be ok after the bulb is changed assuming the light unit has slotted back in correctly.

Cheers

Dave

Many thanks to all who replied.

I'll double check that I have not got the wiring trapped behind the cluster. And I also note the comment with reference pushing the hook back in a bit.

For info, the Osram Nightbreakers Plus do appear to give a much better light output than the original fit.

I installed them too but I didn't notice any differance in performance myself, new 2010 Scout?

The height adjustment is the lower of the 2 white adjusters at the rear of the dipped beam position. The other does left to right which also adjusts the height unfortunately as it's doing it , therefore requiring the height to be readjusted afterwards with the other one.

I've changed both of mine slighly higher and a lot wider so < > but either way the spread is still poor in comparison to other cars I've had.
