Skoda Felicia Rally Car

Featured Replies

Hi all

Iam new to the forum and have allways wanted a skoda felicia rally car since seeing them in the skoda trophy when i was a kid back in the late 90s.I have been rallying around 2 years using mainly 4wd and rwd cars but we are doing the Roger Albert Clark clubmans rally next weekend and as my mk1 is out of action at the moment and the rally is only open to 2wd cars it was the perfect chance to find and rally a felicia.I have found this ex trophy spec car around 6 weeks ago which has not rallied since 2000 and has mainly sat around doing the odd road rally for previous 10 years. We have spent the past few weeks giving it a major overhaul including re paint and bringing all the competition equipment upto date.Progress so far below. The car should be finnished tommorow so will add some more pictures

Thanks

Love the sticker in the rear windwo! :D

Looks good, will make sure i get some pics of it in action at the weekend. I'm doing Pickering Showground on Friday (Scrutineering and stages) and will be up in Langdale on Saturday for both stages. Would love to do some of the Sunday stages as well, but unfortunately my finances won't allow.

Legendary progress there.

Where did you get the new decals from?

We are running the skoda in the clubmans section on the sunday mate

Graphics from a local company i can get you the name they are excellent quality

Had its first test today went really well only problem it had was the front wheels appear to want to come loose :o need to sort this out tommorow anyone else came across this on felicia`s ??

Yeah, I've had that problem a fair bit - back in the day had quite a few issues with wheels coming loose during stages, I think it was partly down to the wrong wheel bolts (alloy ones should have a rounded flange, not a tapered one) and also crappy/corroded wheel spigots/flanges/discs. With everything clean, the right wheels and everything torqued up it should be OK, but I've also found it handy to re-torque them when hot. Had one come loose after driving to RallyDay, doing several track sessions and then it started on the way home - again, it was down to crap on the flange (wheels had been sat outside for a while, I chucked some old forest tyres on just for a laugh round the track). Cleaning everything up properly before RallyGB meant no such problems, thankfully!

I also notice that you appear to have both 100mm pcd and 98mm pcd wheels, this may have something to do with it maybe.. I do mine up to 85 lbf too (always torqued)

Turned out to be a combination of dirt and the wrong nuts that came with the car.All sorted and completed the rally had great fun in the car although it was seriously lacking power. At least we got a trophy for out class an ended 4th o/a lol

Any idea how to get some more power out the 1.3 engine ??

Thanks

If you're not limited by regs, then a ported head, better-flowing exhaust manifold and better inlet (using ITBs), plus a decent cam will do the trick, should see good power out of it then. You'll need a programmable ECU (or a lot of buggering about) though, obviously.

Hope you had a good day on Sunday. I counted you down off the line at Heathhall. it was bloomin cold but we enjoyed it.

I cheated and did this to mine

but seriously you can squeeze decent power from the skoda engine but unless you have a proper gearkit the std ratios will let it down lots.

lots of tuning bits around but theyare mostly abroad

Where can you get a cam for these engines and a programable ecu ?

We had a great day mate you must of been numb especially once it was dark. The guy who counted us down in Ae said its was -3 and that was early in the day so fair play to you.Wihout you guys it would not be possible

I thought about the 2.0 route lol

Plenty of cams about (I have one that will be for sale this weekend, in fact, as well as a head or two!), as for the ECU, any of the usual suspects - DTA, Omex, Emerald, Megasquirt. My car runs DTA (and it's been perfectly reliable), but my old car ran Megasquirt (this was back in the MS-1 days, 5 years ago), and if I was starting from scratch now I'd probably do another megasquirt (in fact I have a V2 one built that was going to go on my car before the full DTA setup turned up at the right price). Worth taking a look on some of the cz-based websites, there is a lot more of a market for them out there, so you can get bits fairly easily; I even got a "mini-kit" manifold without too much trouble (although with a fair sized bill!)

As Jim says, the standard gearbox is quite wide ratio, so you need to keep a fairly flexible engine to make it work, but it is doable to a degree.

As for 2.0, it was very tempting when i had the spare shell, but it's not Skoda! Even if you put a sticker on it! ;)

lol at sticker.. to be fair darren if I were to do anouther one from scratch (which I am definatly not!!!!! :wonder: ) I would go for either the 1.4 or 1.6 16v small block vw motor, not too much weight and pretty tuneable and a bolt in conversion. coupled with the big brake conversion I made up it transforms the car.
