Ticking / Tapping noise from rear of engine when hot

Featured Replies

Has anyone had or know what a loud ticking noise is from the back of the 2.0 PD TDI? Only happens when the car is really hot.

Engine has 80k and full service history.

Cambelt and tensioner done by Skoda dealer 8k ago.

The ticking frequency rises with the engine revs so must be connected.

It sounds terminal, but it does not happen when the engine is cold or at just under normal working temp.

Power is still very good and there is no smoke. Oil and all other levels ok. No faults on VAGCOM.

Got it going in to the garage tomorrow but wanted some heads up if people have had this before.

Thanks for any ideas.
