185/60/14's to 185/55/14s?

Featured Replies

I currently have Fabia VRS Alloys fitted on my Fabia 1.9tdi, but I am thinking of using my old 14'' Steelies for Winter Tyres. I have 185/60/14 summer tyres on, but, the tyres that I have seen that are in stock are 185/55/14. I presume these would be OK to fit on? As I would prefer to fit these on sooner rather than later as some of the roads I now have to use where are quite bad.

Any feed back and suggestions would be appreciated, Thanks

you are ok mate just drive and if you have chance buy some winter tyres 14 are cheap

Not really. They will make the speedo read roughly 3% slow and for every 100 miles you do you'll record 103. Your MPG will look good though.

Changing the tyre size fitted will probably invalidate your insurance too. I reckon you actually want a 185/65/14 to match the vRS 205/45/16 tyre, but I could be wrong. Also, just check that 14" wheels fit over your brakes before you spend a lot of money. If they are the original wheels and brakes then no problem, but it's worth bearing in mind.

Thank you for the quick replies, the only place I can find in the correct size s mytires, but i've heard mixed reviews/feedback on this company. I normaly order from camskill, but they seem to be stuggling for stock, understanably for this time of year!

its 1.9tdi not vrs .so find some WINTER TYRES and you are ok

The 1.9TDI has 185/60 14 fitted as standard (ours does). I see that's what you've got already.

The tyre pressure guide (in one of the sticky threads) has a list of the different tyres for the Fabia. The only alternative in 14" is a narrower 165/70 14. If you fit 15" wheels you can fit 185/55 15 or 195/50 15.

If you want to change the profile of the tyre you have to buy either a wider tyre or a larger diameter wheel to keep the same overall hight. So I'd stick with the standard 185/60 14, if I was you.

Interesting option for the 165/70/14 tyres, I really want to use my old 14'' steelies and put my 16''s in the Garage so that sounds a good alternative! I'll look round on the net.

You may struggle to get 165/70 tyres on a 6j rim

You're right, I didn't notice. They are fitted to a 5 x 14 wheel. 185/60 are fitted to a 6 x14 wheel.

It doesn't really matter whether he's driving a Skoda or a Veyron, he needs the right sized tyres. I know it was easier in the old days when you just had the one at the front and the handles at the back (sorry! it is a joke) but if nothing else you could invalidate your insurance.

Interesting. It's quite a big change from a 185/60/14 to a 205/45/16 - almost 2.5% and normally the changes aren't anything like that big when swapping between standard tyre sizes hence my suggestion of the 185/65/14 as that's less than 1% different.

i have just put some winter tyres on my fabia yesterday

i bought a nearly brand new set of steelys for £30

and a set of vredestein snowtrac 3s for £50 each

i went for 175/65/14 these are only 0.3 percent out which is easily acceptable

i could have gone for a lot cheaper tyre they start from around £28 each

but i try not to skimp on tyres and i have heard good things about the vredesteins
