Help in choosing which model

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'd greatly appreciate any advice in the following..... Im about to order a VRS estate. Its either going to be Candy white or anthracite grey, cant decide which at the moment as they both look great.

My dilemma is that age old problem of petrol v diesel!!

Ive read all the comments on here about which is best and I know it comes down to the amount of miles per year youre going to do, and with that in mind the petrol would probably edge it...however... the diesel only works out about £600 more, and Id recoup that within a couple of years easily and resale value is higher , so Im swinging back towards the diesel!

Also, Im not a driver purist, so not bothered whether petrol is a better engine and revs higher etc.

Then, Im reading about how the DPF can cause issues wit low mileages (which I would be doing...about 10k ish), although many diesel owners have no problems with this......so come end up I really dont know which one to choose!

Im going to order this week to take advantage of the dealer offers before they end, so any advice of your own experience would greatly help!!

Thanks....Il try, trouble is Ive only got the one dealer down here in Cornwall, and I had to beg a go in the salesman's own diesel vrs at the weekend! They havent got a petrol version....Im having sleepless nights about it cause times running out!

Petrol! Cheaper, faster, and less likely to go wrong! I absolutely love mine. You get the 'zing' of the revs, but also superb low-down torque due to the turbo.

Easy to get 40+ mpg on a run. I average 32 with a heavy right foot and 60% town driving! Do it!

Whichever way you go, have fun! You will not regret it!

Oh yes, don't discount Brilliant Silver Metallic. Great colour. Very understated, and hides the dirt well!

Thanks Dunc69....I was initially set on the diesel, but having read most of the comments here over the weekend Im def leaning towards the petrol! Itll be mainly for the misses to drive and shes currently in a Bm 325 convertible which is doing about 25ish around town....(know anyone interested in buying one??) so anything more than that would be great.

Had a chipped fabia vrs before that and must admit, did like the power with the economy.

I do just under 10k miles a year and have had no problems with my DPF on my PD VRS and no problems so far with my CR VRS. I will also save enough in fuel to break even after about the first year or so. Used to have the Mk1 VRS (Petrol) and have not regretted going to diesel. Which ever you choose you will be getting a great car.

Thanks PSM....thats just it, I think either car would be fine, so itll be down to my own personal preference. Ill have a chat to the dealer about the DPF issues tomorrow (doesnt seem a major concern on this site). My heart says petrol and my head says diesel! perhaps Ill take the easy way out and the let the wife decide?! Apart from choosing the colour!

When I ordered my vRS i really liked the Candy White, with other choices of Ant Grey . Met silver.

Dropped white when was told by the dealer that SUK in Milton keynes has most of its company cars in white, & suddenly thought, about when these all com up for sale, there will be a glut of White on the market, plus my eldest has a white car, & it must be kept clean, to keep looking nice ( like Black)

Looked @ the Grey, was a really nice colour in the Octy, but again it was slightly darker than I expected & would need to be kept clean .

So went for the Silver, & having seen a couple of Octy's in sliver. looks like it does hide the dust a bit ;)

If you choose Anthracite get the silver roof rails - I did and they set it off a treat.

I fancy a white vRS petrol estate next.

I will do about 15000 business miles per year and 10000 private miles.

I get paid 17p per mile for diesel and 21p per mile for the petrol so it will come down to a choice of which engine I prefer.

Have done 100 000miles in a PD vRS, I so want a Petrol!

I know the CR is more refined, but I do miss bouncing off a 7000rpm limiter :D

Hi,

Adding to the colour debate. I too had lots of trouble choosing which colour.

Didn't want Blue - everyone has them, (plus the wife's Saxo is blue!)

didn't want black - always looks dirty

didn't want Silver - past three cars have been silver, yes it does hide the dirt well

didn't want white - similar to black (plus lots of taxi's around here are White Octys)

So opted for Anthracite - very nice colour and hides dirt too.

Engine choice - only you can decide that one, people on here will argue good cases for either engine. Me? I swapped to diesel three cars ago and have never considered going back to petrol, yes I know there is more initial accelleration, but I like the bullet proof torque of the diesel.

Agree with previous comments, which ever engine or colour you eventually opt for, you are getting a brilliant car for brilliant money!

HI i pretty much had the same thoughts and sleepless nights last year when i ordered mine, i think the advice if at all possible is to try and drive both. Having said that i had never even seen an FL Vrs in the flesh when i ordered mine, and had not driven a skoda since i had my mark 1 octavia VRS. i dont do high milage 9,000-10,000 per yer, but love the way an oil burner drives the effotless cruise, overtake and the big thump of tourque. I went for petrol in the end, and dont regret it at all. Had a Lexus IS 220D and part ex'd that and that had a wall of torque, i was worried i would miss that in the petrol, but i have hardly noticed it the petrol in my humble opinion has enough mid range / low down, and when you want to play will fly up in the higher rev's i am sure you have seen plenty about playing with the car to make more power etc and if you want that i think you can do it on both fuel's, as standard its fast enough to be fun but not too fast.

the car itself is a good car whichever fuel you choose i love mine if i had enough money to buy another i would go for another petrol without doubt, although its horses for courses!

As for the colour of course Blue ones are faster  i think colour choice is very subjective and everyone will have their own opinion, silver looks very good in the flesh, anthrecite was my second choice have seen a few and it looks nice if a little more understated somehow. red and yellow were not on my list but have seen both and both look good (yes even the yellow which surprised me!) black look nice when clean but are a dog to keep that way, not sure on the white IMHO

If you want advice go for your gut instinct on colour and fuel choice whichever one you go for i am sure you will be more than happy.... after a little wait!! :giggle:
