that and tax free discount because i exported the car out of the country to germany :p i used to buy a car every year and sell it on for a profit lol. The vRS is the first one i kept for longer than the year, says alot really

In my job I see alot of your (teenage) guys coming back with their short back and sides driving flash motors, tbh good luck to them, I'd sooner drive around in a 1.2 Felicia than go to war.

If there's one thing I've learnt from spending time on this place over the last few months it's that someone has always managed to grab a better bargain than you.

You'll tear your hair out if you get too hung up on finding the very best deal, just need to find a price that's acceptable for you and take the plunge.

Yes but the cupra has the same power

been here, done this ....

i had the original leon cupra R and when you latest one came out it was the same time as i was looking to swap

so i did the OTT thing and went to work on comparing new leon woth my leon and then the my leon with new octavia VRS

on comparing my leon to new one i was disspointed and didnt think i could find anything to replace it

but then comparing it with the vrs, the vrs was better or just as good in every aspect i needed, but the main thig was space ...

so i would defo go for the VRS,

just to say i did the same thing again befored i ordered my FL vrs this time against new cupra R and i would still g for VRS,

The Octy is more "Volkswageny" of the 2. As Janner Sy said if they came in Ko4 i'd have one over a Cupra. I converted mine to Ko4 and 300+bhp in a Octy is good fun.

One thing we haven't mentioned yet is that both the Leon and Altea have appalling rear visibility - so much so as to be dangerous (you could reverse into a child without seeing him/her). The Octavia (particularly the estate) is much better in this respect.

Visability wise alot of new cars have shocking rear visability and so dont its fair to compare a hatchback car to an estate or a saloon style hatchback like the octy or mondeo as have a massive rear window just due to the shape of the car.

An estate/saloon shape will always have much better visability and to be honest for years the Vag hatchbacks have had poor visability (mk4 Polos and Golfs etc) and would say that most flat backed hatchbacks dont have the best rear view.

I own both (Mk1 Leon Cupra R petrol and Mk2 Octavia vRS diesel) and have them for different things.

The Octy is my "reliable" daily-commute car - it eats up the miles, very comfortable and lots and lots of space, whereas the LCR is my weekend car, good for going for a "proper" drive somewhere - although my vRS has currently let me down and is dead at the garage, and I can't wait to get it back for my 100mile a day round-trip commute!

So really, it depends what you want it for - I personally feel the suspension setup on the Leon is much better for "spirited" driving - I feel a lot more confident in corners with it than the Octy, though that could be to do with the difference in engine weights up-front.

You cant compare diesel and petrol , if they were both petrol it would be a fairer test as that iron lump pushes understeer

Just glanced back on this thread to see the comments and was looking at the interior diagrams on page 3 and one thing i did notice is that the octy dash is the face lift and the leon one aint. The face lift Leon now has a very similar climate control unit and headunit is much improved, but do still agree the dash is better laid out on the octy and nicer dials.

Dont think there is much in the cars (except boot) as long as you compare diesel with diesel and petrol with petrol as been said before.

Both much better buys than the Golf (do love em though) or the Audi A3 for the money.

If you dont mind 3 doors then the scirocco is a stunner in my opinion and if i can talk the missus out of wanting a bloody jeep then thats next for her :) (with the TSI lump doing around 40mpg on a run might even be a petrol aswell :)).

2010 Cupra, massive improvement, but still not a patch on the Octy......................
