very concerned - gear/clutch issues

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, i own a 2002 octavia vrs, it has full skoda service history and 92k on the clock, here s the problem

About 2 weeks ago, i could not get the car in gear when running, i had to turn off the engine and it went in. I have had no clutch slipping or clutchy smell!.................. Today I drove from Falmouth to Truro with no issues atall, i got into the car park in Truro to drop someone off, and took it out of gear, i then could not get it in reverse, it felt like it was just not going far enough, and if i eased my foot off the clutch it crunched like mad, i put it in neutral and started doing the same for 1st gear, no joy! I then turned it off, dipped the clutch, put it in first and started the engine, when i pulled away i am sure there was slight jolting and am sure i could here a noise, but it was hammering down with rain so cant be sure about the noise. I then had to reverse and it went in.....i then could not get it out of reverse, what the hell is going on???? i have not noticed, as mentioned any slipping of the clutch, i drove from Bristol to Truro last night with no worries atall. anyone help out, is it the clutch???? is it the gearbox??????

Cheers

Jim

You can reset the gear linkage pretty easily. This would be the first thing I would try. There are videos on you-tube on how to do this, and a search on here should give some guidance as well.

I thought my clutch was going the other week and a fella at my local indy vw place told me the way to tell is if it wont go in unless the engine is off.

Im not sayin thats what it is just what I was told to check and it sounds like thats the problem you have so might be worth pricing up your options before taking it to a garage and them giving you a big bill.

Sounds like clutch drag to me.

Have you tried pumping the clutch pedal before trying to engage a gear?

If that works then it's probably the slave or master cylinder that's gone.
