New Tyres causing swerving

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I own a MK 2 Octavia Sport which is now 4 years old. I had the Bridgestones on the back changes to Uniroyals Rainsport 2 last week. Now on the motorway (which is where I notice it) my car steering is very acute and the car is swerving. This wasn't hapening before and I wonder if anyone has any ideas why.

Thanks

Check tyre pressures, many tyre places will end up putting too much pressure in. Always reset the pressures when you have new tyres fitted.

Agree - it's amazing the number of tyre fitters that don't set the correct pressures.

Practically every tyre fitter on earth just sets them to 30PSI.

If pressure (and tracking) is right, you still need to bed the new tyres in. If they are new, they will smear. Should go away after a couple of 100 miles.

Check they put them on the right way round

Some tyres are directional

Check they are on tight! Might be a missing or cross threaded nut.
