Tyre Size

Featured Replies

On my spiders i have 205/50/17 was looking at some new tyres and 225/45/17 are considerably cheaper does any one have that size on there spiders?

225/45 is what most 17" Skoda's were supplied with.

Most of the 17" spiders had 205/50/17 from the factory and that's the size that is displayed in the manual and brochures.

I had all 4 of mine replaced when I bought the car as the ones on there were all odd and budget tyres I replaced them with 225/45/17's as they were a lot cheaper when your doing all 4!

Correct

Loads of people fit the cheaper 225's, but the "correct" tyre is the 205. In theory the 205's will provide better handling and economy.

225's are pretty useless in snow as well.

That's true. 225 is a more common size.

Also, 205's will be more stable on the motorway as the contact patch will be longer, rather than wider. Won't tramline as much. Contrary to popular belief, 225's will not give you more contact with the road. They will have the same contact patch, just a different shape.

I can vouch for that too. My old toledo got stuck with 225's on, but my mums corsa with 165 wide tyres was fine lol.

I have 225/45/17 Toyo T1R's fitted to my VRS and i find the handling spot on, turn in feels very good indeed. Plus £320 for 4 was good imho. Also we had snow here the other day, tyres were fine.

My 225/45/17's are Toyo's too but the PX4's as no one had the T1R's in stock when I needed them. I do like Toyo's reasonable prices and good alround tyres in my opinion.
