The 't' in tdi usually means it has a turbo :) if the turbo is not working at all then you might as well get out and push you will notice the complete lack of power, if its on its way out look for oil leaks. when you are driving accelerate then let you foot off the pedal and watch for blueish smoke from the exhaust, this could mean the seals in the turbo have gone.

The way i check is press on air intake rubber hose on manifold & get someone to rev if it pushus your hand out turbo working if it stays in or even trys to suck in no pressure allway remember to ckeck fuse 34 as this fuse supplys pos voltage to boost + pump timing & air meter .

Or just take it off & start up you should get a good rush of air
