My sister bought a Megane

Featured Replies

The fact that she could have had a very good Skoda for the money she spent didn't stop her from buying a 1.5 dCi Megane "Dynamique". "5 star safety rating" was crowed rather loudly at me as I prodded various bits of dodgy trim.

The car felt very, err... French. I think that's the most complimentary thing I can say about it. It would be interesting to drive the 225 BHP version for comparison to the Octavia.

I was allowed to take it around the block. My impression was that it was floaty and wallowy, with over-servoed steering. Cabin space was good, but the boot was miserably small. Trim and interior quality was better than I expected, but it wasn't a patch on Skoda interior quality.

All in all, one to avoid!

Agreed... We run eight of the bu**ers for work and two lagunas and EVERY single one has been off the road for a period ranging from 1 - 10 days in only six months.

We've had clutches go at 83 (yes, 83) miles, 6000 miles, and 10,000 miles. We've had rear windscreens mysteriously shatter by themselves while parked up. We've had injection problems, electrical problems (completely replaced 1 Laguna wiring loom after 4000 miles), problems with wheels, problems with steering, problems with brakes, problems with trim, you name it. Incidentally, they're all 1.9 diesels.

Very, very French. No wonder they're in the bottom ten of all the driver satisfaction surveys.

You should have reminded her that it get's its 5 star rating because it's never on the road long enough to have a crash.

Also if it is so good, why do they have to rely on advertising the quirkyness of it's big fat backside to sell the car????

(although I do like the styling of it :o )

 How true!

Wait 'til your sis's cars warranty has run out...if she keeps it that long. :P

Price of parts are horrendous.

Went to a cussie's house to do fag burns on his base model motobility Clio last year. Think he'd had a bonfire on it!

Told him it was beyond repair and that he needed a new base cover. Asked could I price one up for him. Did so....

I must admit to being one of those who find the Megane's looks rather brilliant, but was put off by my old boss's Laguna which had 3 or 4 recalls and would conk out at inopportune moments (like doing 80 in the outside of the M1 for instance).

Plus, for the same money as the furby i'd have been lucky to get a 90 bhp dci model.
