Resurrect or scrap

Featured Replies

Ok, I've come to the conclusion that we're a fairly vocal bunch on here, so.....

Having basically stripped my doner truck for as much in the way of "Fun" spares as I can (those that were intact). Nothing under the bonnet has been touched (except the strut brace), although the battery is flat now and tickover is almost non-existant. The reading on the speedo is about 73k, however, the speedo cable was broken when it was recovered (oddly, it had no core). Previous owner had used it as a doner too, though mainly for the towbar and the Truckman (which was the glass+rails one).

The question really is:

Scrap it

- or -

Carry on using it as a glorified wheel-barrow on the company estate

- or -

put it back together, but with "normal" parts, so the only "Fun" bit would really be the rear sears.

If it gets scrapped or wheel-barrowed, it would seem to be a rather undignified end, but less out there should help the others hold their value ;-)

Is a semi-Fun worth the effort?

Thanks

Alex

Also, I do know that the radiator is shot as I swapped it with my other truck.

The missing dashboard bits and number plates (it's a V) are at home.

If it wasnt so far away (180 miles) i'd have made you an offer for it as i'm looking for a Pick Up for a long term project

Looks like an ace rat look starting point!

Nice office!

It does look upon casual inspection like it could be saved as a serviceable pickup - it doesn't look in much worse condition than some of the ones being offered for sale as working vehicles. Although how about adding the 'stripped-down trackday weapon' option as well? I can just picture that hurtling round Brands scaring people with one of Tom's crazy engine swaps in the front :D

if you do decide to scrap it can i have the tailgate loom please

Been thinking about this all day, and depending on price, i'm really considering it, but it's a 360 mile round trip, and i'll have to hire a trailer as well.

if it was going to that car resting place , why not turn it in to a trailer for your fun :)

Did u get my PM reply??

Yup and sent an e.mail to the address you sent ;-)

just a thought, but do them arches and skirts fit a felly hatch? Or are the skirts too long? (I'd chop em and rejoin them though if they were)

It is, and you have :-)

Tried to start it today, but it didn't want to know, just goes 'click'. On the way home I realised I'd nicked all the fuses out of it a few weeks ago, as well as the battery being beyond flat.

Anyway, to answer Rolo's question: if I can get it started am going to try and do what it needs to get it's MOT, then do the rest to put it back on the road. It'll be missing some 'Fun' parts (the Fischer-Price bumpers, skirts etcetc) so it'll be more a pickup with 2 extra seats than a proper full-on Fun, but hopefully it'll make it back on to the road. :) However, if it fails it MOT on serious stuff, then it will be a scrapper.

Am always open to offers and discussion about it's future though. ;-)

i'll pop up to see you some time in the near future alex.. i'm sure i'll be able to get it going

then all we would need is some large grounds, like a stately home or similar to go bombing about in it... keep off the bowls green though :giggle:

I have to admit (rather embaressingly) that I missed this post first time round. :o

This actually is the most appealing idea so far. The place it currently lives in is not over-keen on it just mooching in the grounds for an extended period of time (being bright yellow doesn't help the cause ;-) ). I think a trailer conversion would take less than a weekend to do and still yield salvagable parts (to be transported home in the trailer!). Last known, the engine ran, but defo needed a service, the gearbox was fairly sound too (again, new oil would probably be useful.) A Truckman top (damn I just sold one) would turn it into a very useful bit of kit indeed.

Am going to have a serious look into this methinks. I honestly don't really have the time and the money to put into putting this back on the road when all is said and done. Plus it's 40 miles from where I live, so working on it won't be easy.

Pictures are now here:

If anyone wants to see anything specific, let me know.

Before there are any requests for parts:

Tom has got his name on the arches, the skirts and the tailgate spoiler thingy, and (I think it was) Ricko wanted the big yellow pretend rollover bar. The headlights and indicators won't be there either and I'll need to keep the wheels. Other than that, everything from the B-billars foward will be up for grabs. All donations gratefully recieved as I'll need to put something back across the tailgate after Tom has had the spoiler.

Ah, erm, embarressed shuffle of feet.......

The croquet lawn has two brown arcs across it where TB4 hauled itself around today whilst trying to get the other one moving. :giggle:

scrub the spoiler mate... i've just had a tonnaeau cover made for my pickup and sadly i forgot to mention the spoiler to the geezer..

tbh that fun truck really isn't that bad, just needs tidying up. you are lucky, at least it's not rotten like mine was

If I had somewhere to keep it, then I would, then the time and money bit would be easy, but there's no room at home sadly. I'd love to have kept it and got it back on the road.

Interested in a conversion that makes the pickup a four seater.
