Once again I have washed and polished my Octy.

Once again it has bitten me badly on my finger.

As I was polishing the rear lower end of the car I turned over the cloth and was surprised to find it covered in blood.

Having had this before I knew at once what caused it.

The twin exhaust pipes, which protrude out the back of the car, both have razor sharp edges where they were not de-burred correctly.

These are extremely sharp and can cut through the fingers very easily. The last time it took over two weeks to heal properly.

Some people just never learn from their mistakes.

So I am hacked off with this, and thinking of adding chrome exhaust pipe trims over the little fellows to stop any further bites.

I tried to measure the outside diameter of the pipes and found it difficult due to their position.

Can anyone tell me the outside diameter and where I might get some good quality trims from.

Thanks in advance for any forthcoming assistance.

Diameter of a circle = Circumference of the circle divided by pi(3.142 or 22/7 in old money)

So measure it's girth(ooh err missus) and use the above formula.

Thank you, too much information, it's all pie in the sky to me. Whats my missus got to do with my exhaust pipe !!!!

The pipes are cut at an angle and this makes it difficult for me to take any measurements accurately.

I was hoping someone would know the answer, preferably in old money, eg. 2.00/2.25 inches.

Skoda do their own stainless steel trims, they're listed on page 5 of the accessories catalogue, part no is FDC 610 001.

Thanks for the link

No doubt an excellent product even if a little expensive.

I see from the sale literature that the product requires fitting.

By this, I take it that it should go into the workshop for fitting, as someone told me that it has to be welded into place.

Could any one comment on this as being correct.

Cripes! Didn't realise they are £48! Several on fleebay for £7 to £15 each, maybe a couple of these would do? Should be easy enough to source online.

If only I knew what size they were !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You'll just have to get down on the ground with a calliper! I was considering fitting similar trims, so I may well try to measure them this evening - I'll report back.

Many of the aftermarket ones have adjustable clamps & will fit different sizes-no need for welding (or measuring!)

If only I had one of them there callipers, all would become clear. Nearest I have is a shifting spanner.

Would like to hear from you on your measuring tonight.

Could you not just de-burr the existing pipe?

Could you not just de-burr the existing pipe?

Yes, everything is possible but access to where the burrs are is most difficult to get a file in.

Also, if I were able to do so, then I would be left with bare metal which would quickly rust.

Then the rest of the car would just drop off the end of the exhaust.

Well, I got down on my knees at the back of my car in the bitter cold last night, all in the name of Briskoda! Diameter is 50mm (2.00 inches). What I didn't measure was the gap between the two pipes, looks around 1.25 to 1.50 inches, so you will need to bear that in mind as some add-on trims are of much larger diameter. Not sure what you can do about the slash cut end profile - all the trims I've seen are straight cut, but I'll look around a bit more.

Sir, you are both a gentleman and a scholar.

Next time you see me in my local call over and I will be pleased to buy you a pint.

Thanks.
