Is this normal... Oil in IC pipes?

Featured Replies

This a pic i got sent from the garage...

icpipe.jpg

Garage say turbo seals have gone... and i have been losing loads of oil lately...

Would this be the cause? Since another person said that amount is normal...

Also would i now need to get a new IC?

Thanks.

Craig.

how much oil are you using?????

you will get oil in the pipe work due to the recirc of the crank and rocker breather back into the inlet ( thats why people do the pikey mod)

but if you are using lots of oil then yes could be seals going/gone

as for new intercooler no just clean that one it will be fine

Had an oil change last month, that went empty after 2 weeks, then another full dipstick worth gone

Im No mechanic But i think that much oil Might not be a problem My IC Pipes leak bit and there is oil every wer it leaks

Do you check you oil Often and How often do you top it up, if you top it up often like every week or so then maybe turbo seal might be gone

Only had car 1 month.

Been filled up twice in that time including a oil service from JKM.

Once my fueling issue is fixed... will it be okay to drive a few weeks on broke turbo seals whilst i wait for new one?

Be ok to drive, but I wouldn't use too much boost to get the turbo hot. Although saying that it will probably leak even on tickover as oil pressure is still fixed.

I'd be tempted to pull the plug on the boost sensor on the side mounted IC to force it into limp home mode and run it around like that for a while, at least until the turbo can be replaced/refurbed

Hmm. Will have to see what the verdict is tommorow. Would these leaking seals have anything to do with the cars eratic shuddering behaviour once on boost? :giggle:

There any companies that are doing pd150 hybrid turbos and taking my old one atm?

yes it will be performing like a pig and with using that much oil deffo turbo failure...... new turbo will be req and a good clean of the pipework aswell

imo i wouldnt drive it as the shaft will have lots of play and if it was to break you never know where the blades will end up...

Okay no worries :'(

More time in the garage haha. Will have to try and source a re-conned / new 150 turbo then

Turbo technics / midland turbos i know of so far.

Who else is worth a try?

Picture is blocked at work for me :( Small amounts of oil is normal.

You can easily clean up the pipes and IC with a spray degreaser (£1 a bottle, get a few).... or maybe even some large tub. I got on alright with the spray stuff though.

TurboDynamics is another one.

Know how you feel, mine started to go about a month after the warranty ran out. Ended up taking it off and sending it to Midlands Turbo for a recon, came to £450 all in inc collection and delivery. If you catch it early and it's only the seals/bearings it's about £230 I think, but mine had clouted the housing with the compressor turbine so it all needed replacing. Another £50 for oil, filter and sundries, checked the oil feed pipe was clear, etc. So cost me £500 all in doing it myself. That was just for a standard PD130 turbo.

Oh yeah, mean't to add, does it make a weird woooooo noise like a fire engine or an ambulance coming up behind you in traffic??? Mine did. If not you may be lucky and get away with just bearing and seals!

I know the sound you mean but it doesnt do it :) Friends 206 diesel does it and just thought it was fine. May have to inform him :)

Ive emailed some people asking about the pd150 turbos and can get one for £595. Think ill opt for that.

Or the same price for my 130 hybridded.

Okey doke, good luck. The noise on mine changed drastically one night though from wooooooooooo to screaaaaaaaaaaaaaachhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh no boost at all! :-) I'm currently quite happy with my mere 130hp!

Bite the bullet. Whilst that may seem 'just too much oil', the danger is that it will suddenly swallow a lot more whilst you're going down the motorway. The new engine will not be cheap - and a seized engine can be a killer.
