whats this light then?

Featured Replies

hey guys,

just got in the car and this warning light came on and i have no idea what it is due to not getting the handbook when i bought it the other day. im going to be ringing them up tomorrow and ask whats going on as it had a full service on monday and all was fine yesterday.

Also the temperature gauge is not working, would this be the reason for the light ?

any help much appreciated for a newbie

Engine management light. Get it checked out ASAP

That'll be the 'Check Engine light' (CEL) Also refered to as 'Malfunction indication light' (MIL)

would it have anything to do with the temperature not working does anyone know?

Yes, if the temp sensor is shot, it will log a fault code, and the CEL warns you the engine systems need checked.

Mine comes on when I turn the key to start the engine, all the other lights go out and this stays on, but once the engine fires it disappears. Normal?

What, like you've only had it a day? If so then welcome to the forums and TAKE IT BACK! Most problems are usually quite straightforward to fix. And not all of them are expensive.

well got a new temp sensor today and going to fit it tomorrow morning. luckily know the lads at a local car spares and got it for £20. but the temp worked just after i bought it but still going to fit it and then find someone with vag com to double check and then hopefully clear the fault.

gave the chap who i bought it off a ring and told him whats happend and he did say bring it back but im handy with a spanner and said i dont mind doing it but if it is something diferent ill be bringing it back for him to sort as it will cost me £20+ round trip in petrol to get sorted. but he's fine with that and told me to ring him either way so he knows which im pretty happy with

hopefully just a duff sensor and will let you know tomorrow morning great start to this car lol although it is cheaper than my mk1 golf

i changed mines today

(130 tdi)

easy peasy took 5mins tops!

does the cel come on when all fabia vrs' are started? As it never has on mine ever.

It should come on when ignition turned on, and go off when engine started.

On mot cars all the warning lights come on as you put the key into the first position so that you will know if the lamp behind hasn't blown, or been disabled. If everything is okay they should all go out on start up.

Guess mines blown then as it doesn't light up at all .

From a pessamistic view, the uncruplious may disable a lamp to hide a problem before selling, best to check lamp or get a vag-com reading.

well changed mine this morning and its not moved at all so that was a waste of money so going to phone the chap who i got it off and try and take it up to him this week to found out whats wrong and then clear the fault.

Really annoyed me as only having it a few days now and problems have arisen already

Well let's make my day even worse by getting a screw in my tyre on the way home from work. This skoda ownership is testing my patients :(

I had that light come on Skoda sorted it in about 3 hours and all for FREE
