Insurance Question

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just a quick question, would adding esp increase my insurance cost? I mean it is a safety feature and so you'd think it would reduce the cost?

Would I have to tell them I've had it fitted at all? I kno it isn't a standard feature but it isn't a remap or anythin that will make it go faster!

Thanks

I suspect you'll have to ring your insurance company and ask them ;)

Though it would increase the cost of the car, hence they'd have to pay out more to replace it.

Doubt they'd give you any discount anyway - if you remapped your car so it had a lower power output, do you think they'd lower the premium? :D

lol, there's no chance of that happenin :D

I had a friend who had an older BMW 3 series & fitting a high level rear brake light would have increased his Insurance

The only person who can tell you is your insurance company, I think basically with some companies they have realised that if a car is non standard for whatever reason it will potentially cost more to repair

It depends... (how's that for non-commital ? ;) )

Some insurers will not load a premium for a factory-fit option, but some will.

Best plan is to ask, and if necessary find a more enlightened insurer :)

When I insured mine, they just asked how much it had cost me, the insurance premium was based on that amount.

They never asked whether it had any factory fit extras.

Does anyone know of any cheap insurers? I'm a young driver so I need all the help I can get to get the cheapest quote!

Thanks

directline , tesco etc etc

Generally insurers are only bothered if you fit non standard things, like alloy wheels. If you just tick a couple of boxes on the options list they aren't bothered.

But you are very unlikely to get a discount for putting it on your car.

The Confused website is quite a good place to start' date=' as it will come back with at least ballpark figures to get you started. FWIW, Elephant and Admiral always came out in front for me in the past. Suppose it all depends on your driving history and postcode. Privilege nearly came out top last time, by about

Thanks, I'll try those.

Try calling Motor Direct

Telephone: 01993 709 081

I've been with them for about the last 5 Years for both my Motorbike and my car. They don't have any fancy instant online quote systems, they don't even give you an instant quote but I've yet to find anywhere cheaper.

Direct line and tesco wont touch any mods.
