LED numberplate bulbs for FL - any news?

Featured Replies

Any chance of pics to show us what you did? I've got 5 * 5050 T10's in both upper and lower holes for rear parking lights and they're much better than bulbs.

Sure, though this will take some time as I don't have the car currently in my possession as my Friend has been using it for a while and will be with him for some more time to come. Will post the pics the moment I receive the Car.

Someone on the Seat Cupra forums bought the correct LED bulbs, and scotchlocked a W5W bulb holder onto the wiring to increase voltage.

If you're really bothered, go to the MK5 GTI forum and there is a guy on there selling genuine VW rear LED cluster lamps for £40 (RRP is £50 I believe)

These are still going to give you a bulb out error on a FL car though.

I was just about to say that - beat me to it :)

Somebody has already tired it (not on Briskoda if I remember) and as expected they still give a lamp error.

I noticed in VCDS in controller 9, Coding 07, you can turn on "number plate cold diagnostics off" wonder if this would solve the problem?

I wished I had switched it on now and I could have tried it :-(

Unfortunately it will make no differance.

I just wonder, has anyone tried the complete VW LED numberplate light unit, that's available - from the Golf I believe?

I saw a part number for it the other day, but wasn't sure if it was the same shape as the Octy/Superb unit.

The Superb one is the same as many Audi ones, they clip into place, no screws are needed.

Even with OE Audi LED numberplate lights you still get the bulb out error.

Just wondered whether changing the complete unit to an LED version would help overcome the issues.

P/N 1K8 943 021C - seems some are still getting errors though, so that's another idea out the window!
