Slipping alternator belt?

  • Author

it sounds like its coming from down by front wheel when you in engine bay you cant hear it but you can massivly when your in the car as it comes from down by the windscreen if you understand what i mean?

thanks

That belt is tucked down near the driver side front wheel so it might well be. The problem with diagnosing sounds heard inside the car is that they tend to resonate so you're never quite sure where they're coming from :) Best bet is to open the bonnet, stand over that corner, and get someone else to start and rev it. You'll be able to pin it down easily then.

well iv just noticed it just it when you start the car for a split second and when you turn it off,..

as for driving it doesnt do it when your driving but it does it quite badly when you take your foot of the pedal :(?

thanks

Do you mean on the overrun, or all the time when you're not pressing the accelerator?

I'd agree that it sounds like a belt. Mine slips briefly (lights dim slightly) if I drive through a really big puddle on the driver's side, then squeaks for a few seconds as it dries and begins to grip again. My previous car (Mondeo) did the same but worse.
