Damage to front bumper.

Featured Replies

Hi all

I was driving down the motorway the other night when a rabbit came running out from the grass verge and with me doing speeds of 80MPH i didn`t fancy pulling the wheel to one side as it was -9 outside. It hit the front bumper on the nearside and has caused the bumper to bend in and pull the top bit from under the headlight. What`s the easiest way to get the side clips to undo at the sides as from what i can make out it should be just a case of heating the bumper up and it popping back out. There`s no cracking in the bumper at all. I`m just looking into the easiest ways to sort due to me needing the car everyday and with it being one the WRC models i don`t want to be replacing it with with just a white replacment bumper.

Thanks

Phil.

Hi Phil,

Years ago I had a Rover 214sei and while reversing it up onto my ramp caught the rear plastic bumper bottom edge.

Paint was ok so I heated up a kettle of boiling water and let it run slowly down the outside of the bumper

while pushing the dent out from the inside surface. Result was, dent gone and the paintwork was ok

Just have a bit of patience and it should work.

NB: I tried similar on another car i owned using a hot air gun and all i succeeded in doing was bubble the paint up.

Hope this helps

Peter

Hi Buddy I did a guide to removing bumper which is partly on this thread if it helps

I would recomend removing it rather than trying to heat it up as you will find it not too difficult.

Thanks for both of those replys, it`s a great help :)

I reckon that collision was like Bugs hitting your car with a loading of 12_640Pa, so the plastic won't straighten.

A decent bodyshop should be prepared to source and paint a new skin without needing your motor until they're ready to fit it. The big issue is whether or not you hit Bugs someplace that bent the crashbar, and you'll not can be sure about that until the skin comes off.
