Well in a few weeks time I am going to have about an hour on the train so I was thinking when the 2 aforementioned portable units come out which one would you buy ?

I see plus points for both, Nintendo has Mario Kart and PSP has classics like Ridge Racer !

And as I'm going to Malaysia and Singapore around the time of the UK launch.......... :P

PSP seems the better platform in terms of spec and just general "sexyness"...

But probably won't buy either, as I don't get to use my PS2 as much as I'd like.

PSP then a GBA :) GBA has got mario kart but its the snes style one on it. also when you complete all the gba tracks with a B or more rating, you get the original snes ones unlocked :)

Gran Turismo 4 will be on the PSP too ;)

I'm looking forward to the PSP, it's not just a games machine and it looks 'the business'.

I am a bit of a Sony fan but some friends of my son have the DS (from the States) and it looks a bit cheap and plasticky - dual-screen stuff is quite fun though. I think we will probably have one of each in the household but I think the PSP wins because of it's versatility, graphics and looks. :D

PSP definately, the nintendo will just had kids games, reinvented classics and japanese style games. If there to crack the western market they best start producing some quality games.

PSP as it has wi-fi and a web browser (rumoured to be included in update from Sony according to the Register)

PSP as Nintendo seem to release quirky games that, while fun are best played with more than one person and are aimed at the younger player.

It'll be like the old Gamegear vs Gameboy!

The battery life on the PSP will be so short that you'll have to sit next to a plug socket to be able to play it for more than an hour! Saying that you'll probably get more grown up games on the PSP.

The DS is based on everything Nintendo know, and they own the handheld market! Plus it has two screens (I think only one is touch screen?) which means you can have maps/inventories etc. on one whilst you play on the other. A chap at work had one imported, he says its great. The only thing that will let the DS down is if they don't support it well enough with games, and only supply it with kiddie games. Oh and the battery life is much better than the PSP.

I reckon the DS will rule in another 12 months - but I'll be happy to be proven wrong!

Maybe - although compare the gamecube and a playstation II.... Nintendo really didn't do too well. I ended up trading mine in towards a nice new xbox :)

Game Gear was ace... best of the era....

(I still have a couple with TV tuners that are in use!)

Ah good point actually, the Game Cube games seem to be aimed at kids apart from Mario Kart which rocked on the old SNES.

I like the idea of GT4 on the PSP BTW

However nintendo are releasing a module for the DS to allow web browsing IIRC and mp3 and mpeg playback on it.....

But I have the above on my P900 :D

 Same here!

Cool.. I feel I can admit that:

I also have two game gears in bits that have been used for repairs...

..and I have a brand new still boxed and screen protector in place one, never been played with...

Ok, I'm officially a geek..

I also have a game gear with tv tuner, battery pack, carry case etc somewhere in the house...

...in the loft I think

Oh, and go for the PSP... I think this thread (may need to subscribe to see it) may give some further thoughts, written by someone who's actually used both (and bought the PSP).
