SD card for Columbus

Featured Replies

Hi, its probably been talked about before, but what is the max size SD card for the latest Columbus, my car is being shipped at the moment, and I wanted to make sure I had everything I need for when it finally arrives

Also, what is thebest method for getting all your music onto the hard drive? can you load directly from cd, or do you need to load onto SD card from computer and load via card. I was wanting the best quality due to upgraded sound system, so wanted better than standard MP3.

SDHC card up to 32GB. I transfer straight from a 4GB SDHC card, it takes a long time, a 32GB card will take hours, Remember you ca can play from the card so you don't need to load to the HDD

Upto 32GB only with the latest firmware, yours should have it already installed, otherwise you are limited to 2GB non SDHC cards until your dealer/yourself upgrade the firmware.

Best way to transfer would be to rip your cd's at 192 kps or more and then transfer to the hdd... the Columbus can't rip audio cd's.

I use a mikomi card reader (couple of quid from argos etc) with sdhc card installed, usb to computer, computer recognises card as extra drive (windows 7 os) open that drive plus open 'my music' or wherever you store it, copy any music across from there (mp3 format).

Columbus will read that just fine. Much faster than laboriously copying cd's one by one onto the Columbus hd.

Sorry if that comes across a bit basic but not everyone is technically minded.

You can get a hell of a lot of music onto 32gb.

Mark.

Not forgetting you can get a ton of tunes in the 18GB of space available on the Columbus HDD.I would hold-off getting a 32GB card until you fill that up first.

I have been using an 8gig SDHC card in mine and playing the music straight from the card and got about 80% af my CD collection (the ones I want to listen to!) on it and it plays fine.

Ripped my cd's to my PC hard drive using media player and then copied to the card, my pc has the appropriate card slots but usb card readers are cheap enough if required also means you can rename the albums if required to make more sense on the Columbus menu.
