how to remove throttle body when bolt heads are fubared

Featured Replies

Going to be replacing the throttle body on my friends 1.3 MPi tomorrow, but i know for a fact the torx head bolts holding the thing on are FUBARED and nothing will grip em.

given the design of the throttle housing it precludes using a hacksaw to chop the tops of em off, and i dont like the idea of applying heat in an area that likely to have petrol vapour / pooling.

Is it hammer / chisel time? im not worried about mashing the throttle housing as it will be replaced, and i got four new bolts + a gasket coming.

any other ideas welcome :)

Can you get a multipoint socket bashed over it, we've done that in the past. Being multi point ones, like 12 point, they spread the load when trying to undo tight bolts.

It's surprising what can be achieved with mole grips and a suitable supply of frustrated rage, but a rounded-off Torx head is like an open invitation for a drill bit :D

Yeah, I'd be thinking drill, just take the head off and then you can pop the TB off, and once suitably soaked/heated mole the threads out of the manifold.

If you kill the manifold I have a bare one here for sale... £10. :p

i would try whacking it with a hammer and drift really hard before trying to undo them
