Icy weather, Octavia Estate rear washer, broken again

Featured Replies

My Octavia 4x4 1.9 diesel Estate is now facing it's fourth winter.

It's a great car but as soon as the temperature dips below freezing the feed pipe to the rear washer detaches itself.

Therefore the rear tailgate fills with water from the washer pipe, until you become aware that it is not working and therefore dont use it anymore.

This has happened every winter from new and so far been rectified under guarantee.

Yes, it has the correct washer anti freeze mixture for winter.

Its just happened again.

This time I will have to pay, and presumably when we have more freezing weather it will happen again!

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

Any tips on curing this annoying and costly problem would be most welcome

Thanks

Use some silicone and a tie wrap or metal clip to attach the pipe to the washer jet?

Sounds like the water is freezing in the nozzle so when you operate the rear wash the pressure builds up in the pipe and then it forces the pipe off?

Might be worth getting some decent washer fluid and running it at 70/30 washer fluid/water mix?

I used some cheapo Asda stuff and it still froze at a 70/30 mix at -5, used some (expensive) bright pink Halfords premium washer fluid and that didn't freeze at a 70/30 mix, even when it was -12!

I just sorted this on my hatch the other night. As suggested above-a cable tie or jubilee clip around the pipe where it pushes on to the jet.

The fluid has a long way to travel from the front of the car, so it can freeze anywhere along the length of the tubing.

on my 08 octavia the pipe is attached to the nozzle fitting with a white, hard plastic 90° elbow (i just refitted it the other day.)

i don't think a tie wrap is going to hold it on better.

Sorry-estate is different, obviously. What about pvc pipe cement?

I cable tied my mark 1 octy pipe so it didnt come off, it worked too, until it decided to come apart in another place which was a pain to get to, and soaked the inside carpet of the car and the cd changer (in the boot on a mk1)

Not sure where it runs in the mk2.....

Many thanks to all those offering advice.

i have had the repair done and the tubing has been secured with cable ties.

Hope it is now a permanebt solution

Thanks everybody

I have the same problem [ Octavia Elegance estate ] but I don't know where to access pipes.

Any advise gratefully received.

My old Mk1 used to do the same thing, frozen nozzle and the pressure blows the pipe off.

The Mk2's not done it yet
