Which SD card

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I want to buy an sd card for the Bolero but not sure which type is best.

What the difference between SD and SDHC and how high a class can I go and still work with the Boler.

Im looking for a 16 gig card.

Thanks

SD is only up to 2 gig as far as I know

anything over that is SDHC,

First off beware of buying from ebay...Lots of dodgy ones going round.

I bought a kingston Sandisk Class 10 ( got it right)

I am sure class 6 would be enough as this only refers to the write speed ( Putting mp3's on it) and has nothing to do with the playback speed.

I have as I said a 16 gig, Just update every couple of weeks.

Next vRS I will order the mdi kit and whack a big hard drive in there instead

how many tracks do you get on a 16 gig ?

If you spend all day in the car, you'll want a large SD or SDHC card, if not what's the point??emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I havent filled it yet

But depending on the bitrate (I ONLY use 320kbps for my mp3's)

I would estimate that up to 4,000 should fit

oops,

Double post

please delete

Nice one for explaining. I will look for a 16 gig, probably class 8 or 10

For most people 16GB will hold more music than most people will ever listen to, SWMBO has an 8GB iPod installed in her car which has approx 120 ALBUMS on it, plus some photo's and ALL of the artwork for the albums - she never listens to them all, so are you likely to listen to 250 ish albums?

I have an 8GB Micro SDHC card (in a SD adapter) that I intend using in my Columbus, and TBH I probably wont use it's full capacity, but if i do I can always put some onto the 32GB HDD.

BTW the HC just stands for High Capacity (everything over 2GB IIRC) and Class 6 is the minimum speed you need to be looking at.

Very helpful

To confirm what Gizmo68 said - I've got a 16GB Sandisk SDHC that I'm using to transfer music to the Columbus in my car.

I've just copied about 130 albums (around 1800 tracks) to the SD card and it's just under 7GB.

As of today, I can personally confirm the Bolero will support up to 32GB SDHC cards of Class 10 and below. And yes, any SD card above 2GB is classed as SDHC, up to32GB, which is the SDHC limit. A new format is just emerging, for cards larger than 32GB, called SDXC (not supported by the Bolero).

I've got a 16GB with about 300 CDs worth on it, so that must be 2500+ tracks? I know I'm probably never going to listen to some of them, but I just like the idea of having my whole collection available in the car.

It doesn't have to be very fast, I think mine is a type 4 and it works fine.

Again that depends on the bitrate used when ripping them. IMHO anything less than 320Kbps is a waste of time

Not all SD cards are born equal.

Like other have said, avoid ebay as many are knock-offs that look genuine but there are masses of reports of them failing.

I have a policy of only using Sandisk cards in both the car and my camera. Never had one fail and never lost an image. Look at most of the pros, and they use Sandisk too.

I have had several SD cards of all sizes from ebay with no issues. As long as you pick the sellers correctly you should have not issues.
