heater blower not working!

came out to my car today and my fan decided it didnt want to work, i checked the fuse and thats ok. so next a bit of forum research i found out the heater blower resister is a common problem but unlike the posts i read my fan isnt working at all . so into the foot well it was i cant seem to find this resister but got carried away and removed the fan itself , its spins but not what i would call freely. so i priced one up on euro car parts and found 2 types one for climatronic cars and one for normal. my next thought was my car doesnt have a heater resister as its electronically controlled , the resister must be for cars with manual aircon and analogue dial. my dial is working because its displaying on the radio.

ok if my thoughts are right i put 12v straight onto the fan and it span (very fast), so im thinking has the control pack on the fan blown, can this be replaced or is it the whole unit (£250).

can anyone confirm any of this or give some more info on the subject.

please excuse my bad spelling or rambling i was night shift last night and havent had very much sleep and contorting myself into the footwell was not in my plans for today!

I have changed a few of the control packs on the fan, but have also had a lot of bad connections onto the motor itself so its worth checking the terminals in the plug.

All got resistors fitted and you will find it just below where you have removed the motor from its got some heavy cables going to it cant remember how many but you will see these wires.Phil.

any idea how much the control pack is?

The climatronic system doesnt have resistors, the control unit varies the voltage to the fan. As said it has a little control unit next to the fan itself.

thank you! i thought i was right.

Found the sleeve bearings to be a little rusty on mine, and the windings were pretty caked up with dust and grime. Gave the sleeves and windings a flush out with brake cleaner and lubricated the sleeve bearings with Triflo.

Not blown a resistor pack since :) (Touch Wood)

after being sat in the house overnight the fan decided it didnt want to spin any more, so i phoned a couple of local scrapyards and nothing was available, so i had to take the pain and order a new one from eurocarparts

heater motor, skoda wanted £270 for exact same part made by valeo.

anyway fitted it in the car outside eurocarparts local branch and its working fine now. i just have a big dent in my wallet for something i dont think should fail after 4yrs.

Hi there, I think I am currently having the same problem as this on my fabia vrs. The fan isn't working on any setting and the blower unit makes a clicking sound when turned on and glove box removed! Have been told this means the blower unit is gone. Got one priced up for £125 and have been quoted £30 to fit but just wondering if this is an easy job to do myself or not? Also if this sounds like it is the blower unit at fault?

My blower gave up the ghost last weekend, would not work at all on any speed.  I followed the instructions in this video 

for removal.  

 

The fan and the motor were caked in dust and the fan was turning but not brilliantly.  I drenched the motor in engine cleaner and left it outside to drain off and dry. I then sprayed it with WD40 dried it with a paper towel replaced it and it works just fine

Apologies for bringing this thread back to life, however my 2005 Elegance Octy has developed an issue with the fan blower too I have the climatronic version factory fitted with the digital temp screens  above the dials. Will inspect further tomorrow morning but I was wondering what part number I should searching for as there are few variants.

The same just happened to me today.Took it apart and checked the carbon brushes....low and behold they are running low enough not to make proper contact with the shaft.Used a packer in behind the spring that pushes the brush.Seems to have done the trick for now.U must be able to get new brushes from somewhere...

You'll get brushes somewhere.

 

Failing that, take measurements before the brushes get too worn and cause commutator burn from excessive arcing, then you'll need another motor.  You can buy graphite brush stock or other brushes e.g. for a washing machine and cut/file to fit.
