Can you retrofit Xenons? Legally for MOT aswell.

Featured Replies

As above, have tried searching but found nothing :'(

What other best bulb options are there. Last owner had the blue bulbs by halfords (guessing so since the sticker is on my engine bay) but one has gone and halfrauds want £25 for 1.

I just dont want HID's this time round.

Just after some better lights!

Also fancy doing some coming home lights :)

Would i have to have the washers aswell with them?

To retrofit to factory spec would be prohibitively expensive!

Easily surpass £1k

sorry!

You didn't search hard. I found these (although I used the Google search)

The Legal situation with HID/Xenon lights factsheet (anyone ever been stopped on here?)

CHANGES TO MOT IN 2011

Proposed changes to MOT test

So to answer the question, you can fit them now and if they pass the light test, they will pass an MOT. However next year or in 2012 they may be an MOT Failure.

I know the rules on them.

I meant i was looking into if it was possible to fit them. As in prices / a guide...

Title may be misleading :)

The price of £1k was being said a while ago, might be a bit more now, but considering they were a £500 option new, id say thats good value to do a full retro fit, and certainly something i`ll be looking into more next year.

Matt

I put in Osram Nightbreaker Plus bulbs - sourced on Ebay for less than a single bulb price at Halfords - and they certainly look genuine - and slightly whiter than the ordinary Osrams in before - but they don't seem THAT brighter...

There is a new pair of xenon headlights on eBay now but there for LHD cars and are £300 no bulbs or ballasts etc

I'd love to try and retro fit xenons to my fabia but the cost of everything is rather OTT just for the sake of some brighter bulbs :(

I retro fitted factory xenons to the estate with all the sensors, washers and wiring etc.

Easier as the donor had them but even so its going to be a lot of work and money to do them but not impossible.
