Suspension on Tdi pd 130 any one altered/lowered theirs

Featured Replies

My Octy pd 130 elegance has pretty soft suspension and I was wondering has anyone upgraded/lowered theirs or has anyone got any idea how or what would be needed?.....I know it could do with ARB's front and rear but what would fit? thought about putting VRs springs and dampers on but I see someone tried it and the front of the tdi is lighter so makes it run "nose up" any ideas welcome but bear in mind coilovers may be too expensive

Thanks for the advice in advance

Rob

I have:

KW Varient 3 shocks and springs

Eibach ARB kit

Does go round corners rather well :D

Yeah, but surely on an SDI its not quite the same is it?

I have a feeling his "SDi" may be a bit quicker than my pd 130

Ouch ......

In theory, the last thing you do is the ARBs, however, the world ain't perfect! Start off with the anti-roll bars and go from there....

Did the front ARB come off go on OK in the end, as the sub frame has be unbolted? how long did it take?

Took them about 2 hours, including redoing the geometry. Does make quite a big difference :D

You can see how little roll there is by comparing mine to the Subaru in front which is fitted with Eibach springs:

Now that looks more like it!!!

with 4 people in mine I can only compare it to a jelly in a high wind  it's just too soft (the suspension)

Mine cannot be described as soft - I just leave it on track settings for the road, but use tyres with soft sidewalls (on the road) to make it more acceptable. Whack the track wheels and tyres on and it becomes a different beast altogether :D I could soften the whole thing off but can't really be bothered (I'm running approx 3/4 stiffness).

The ARBs do help, so if all you want to do is cut roll but still retain the standard ride characteristics I'd just fit them. You might want to send a PM to KLB (as I doubt he'll look in here). He has completely standard suspension on his 1.8T but has fitted the uprated ARBs IIRC so could give you some idea of what it is like.

For your delight and delectation, here's another piccie of it

The roll on the Subaru behind is quite noticeable (from the angle of the wing) and yes it is the same one that was in front on the first picture I posted.

Just somehow I don't think he's been all the way round and caught you up again :D My Sdi never went that well!!

Ah but my SDI is special :D And I was lucky, I think I caught him unawares ;)

If you want more piccies of mine (unlikely :) ) click here and go to UK Trackdays. The ones from 2004 are of the SDI the others are of the 1.4 16V ( ;) ) I had before .
