My Car, Post-Crash

Featured Replies

If the emerging car was totally hidden then yeah, but from the map, it looks pretty clear. In which case, not only is there traffic to indicate to, but it's directly in front clear to see, and possibly (rightly or not) relying on it. I would never in a million years change lanes as a car was arriving at a turning to my left without indicating.

Aaah, but you are assuming others are as perceptive as you.

It all comes down to assumption. I equally would not pull into left hand lane if someone was waiting to pull out, but equally I wouldn't pull out onto lane 1 if car was approaching in lane 2 indicating or not unless enough time to do manoeuvre and not hamper other drivers or if Ive actually sen car make a move off road etc...

Doesnt excuse pulling out into path of another car though.

I`m not excusing the OP at all, however, everyone is giving him a bashing, making out the other driver is blameless, one person even saying he would always "take the racing line" on that bit of road, without indicating. When in fact, thats a **** poor bit of driving too imo

It's not that everyone thinks the other driver is totally blameless but the fact of the matter is that the car on the main road had right of way. The crash damage makes no difference, it happened because one driver thought he had right of way on the main road and that no one would pull out on him (correctly too n my opinion) and the other saw the other car, thought he was speeding, assumed that the other driver would do what he would do himself and acted on that assumption.

I think a lot of people here have had someone drive straight into them, then try and blame it on them. I know I have, i was on my motorcycle and almost lost my life due to some idiot who pulled out straight in front on me in heavy heavy rain, then had the cheek to shout at me about it. If you are clearly to blame you really should just mark it up to experience. That's all the masses are after ;)

ps: I'm having a horrible day (central heating etc broke down) hense the horrible and blunt response :giggle:

You only indicate if there is traffic about to indicate to- basic advanced driving. If the car was hidden or just pulled up at exit to pub what then?

Personally, I've never agreed with this rule.. I mean, what about the people you've not noticed or the pedestrians? I always signal my intent because it hacks me off when I'm walking along and a car moves unexpectedly into or across my path.

I also never pull out when someone is signalling to turn into the junction I'm sat in or one before, because people do change their minds more then you think.

Any need? Really? No.

Interesting to hear people's views on when to use a indictor and when not to.

Just because there is no other car on the road, you dont use them? Advanced driving indeed...

I was giving my opinion on the situation overall, and why some people think they dont need to use indicators not really on a particular post. However, if you really want i`ll read one again, which would you like me to read?

I always thought the natural position was in the left hand lane, so I would "assume" he was in lane 1 and would have waited. Just my pennies worth.

Unfortunate that it happened though mate. Glad your ok though

All this thread has managed to achieve is to run the OP 'out of town' and shown up a few of the forum members for being judgemental and frankly quite unpleasant. Personally I think that there is nothing to be gained from letting this run any longer, so could a mod either delete the whole sorry episode or just delete it?

The only thing that 'ran the OP out of town' was his inability to consider the fact that he could have possibly been at fault

I agree with the bit about the verbally abusive member - no need for that. Also npo need close close thread either. OP put up thread to gauge opinion and that is what people have done. If you ar he are unhappy, we cant help with that. I am sorry he got himself into the situation, and Im sure everyone can empathise with him too however that doesnt change opinion.

Im not one to sugar coat evrything Im afraid

Seems to me he is just complying with the terms of his insurance, which probably go something like this: "...in the event of an accident, do not admit liability..."
