Help! Engine warning light, riding rough!

Featured Replies

Hi all, we went out to get the Christmas tree today, doing a 12 mile round journey in total.

In the morning I started my car and it felt a little rough but I shrugged that off a s cold 20v start, got up to engine temp and everything was fine. On the way back I was driving fast-ish and doing a few high rev gear changes but still, all was fine. I got up to my last mini dual carridgeway stretch before home and as I cam off the roundabout the car reigned itself back, like when you go into the red. So I looked down and the engine warning light came on. As I tried to take off/build up speed the turbo wasn't kicking in/ there was no punch. I backed off the accelerator and drove normally till I got home, but as I slowed for the second roundabout and tried to take off the car chugged and road rather lumpy. I dropped down into second and it did the same thing. Only when I went over 3000/4000 RPM would the ride smooth itself out but still felt reined in. I got home and did my reverse park and I had it in reverse as well. I parked up and turned the engine over and it sounded a little rough but the light went out. So I tried reversing and driving forward but it was still lumpy. I then left it for a bit and tried turning the car over and it idled a little rough but not too bad. I then gave it a rev and it chugged until 2000rpm then cleared. Tried it a few times and the same happened again. I ran inside and grabbed Vagcom and got this.

No fault code found.

I noticed it is mentions the mass airflow sensor.... When I parked up there was a bit of a smell at the back end and through the aircon there has been faint wafts of petrol.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks,

Damian.

3rded. This works because, when you unplug a duff MAFF, the engine switches to a default air map, instead of trying to run on air values that are total nonsense.

Tried that and it did nothing. Lucky enough there was a volkswagen driver down there and he said that sounds like miss fire, so we tried the coil packs and one had failed and another is going. I still have the engine light though.

We did discover though that one of the pipes is broken.

IMAG0146.jpg?t=1292423840.jpg

does anyone know what pipe this is and where I need to go to get it?

The other two fault codes are:

16684/P0300/000768 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

16687/P0303/000771 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected

Fits in with your petrol smells and the misfire sound

you will also have to reset the codes after the coil pack is changed
