Road Tax

Featured Replies

Quick question, that's confusing me. If a car's bought new at the start of a month, say 1st February, with a year's tax, when will the tax be due? Would it be the end of January?

Is there a crafty way to get some more road tax cover, say if you bought on the 17th of the month (i.e. more than half-way through the month)

Hope this makes sense :D

Steve

Your dealer can buy extra weeks on the road tax.

If you bought it on 1st of Feb then, yes, it will expire 31st of Jan.

You can pre-buy tax, upto 14 days I believe (could be wrong on number of days). But it won't start until the beginning of the next month. I.E. You buy some today to start on Feb 1st. Your car would not have tax from now until 1st Feb. Police and even traffic wardens now have handheld electronic guns which read the barcode on the tax disc, this confirnms if it is legit or not. In this case it would reveal that you have no valid tax and could face a fine.

Thanks guys, makes sense now. It's just the vRS I'm looking to buy has tax expiring at the end of Feb, so thought that made it a 53-plate then. But thinking about it will be an 04.

And having now done an HPI check I know it was registered on 8th March 2004  Only problem now is that the car appears to have outstanding finance :thumbdwn: (see post in Briskoda General)

Thanks, Steve

Your dealer can get 14 days tax on the vehicle prior to the 1st of the month. Only on a new vehicle. the tax disc is marked one year and two weeks in some cases, depends on local tax office.Look at the date stamp for when car was first registered (up to a year old). RS :rofl:

Indeed, I'm pretty sure it's that. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wide of the mark :)

Yeah, really good value - more brownie points for the Furby!

Steve

Yes it is possible to buy extra weeks of tax from central DVLA offices. It will be printed on the disc. I've got a tax disc that cost

For a 100bhp 1.9TDi its

Count yourself lucky you don't have the 100bhp petrol version - just got 6 months tax for
