Stolen keys - lock / ignition Q

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Some delightful toe-rags have broken into where my girlfriend works and stolen her hand bag with all her stuff in it including the keys (her Dad has we've just discovered lost the spare!!).

Can anyone tell me if the ignition is a simple lock and key or is it chipped needing a complete new ecu?

The car is a 2002 1.4 Classic

Thanks in advance

Ben

You can order a new key from the dealer from your VIN and then get someone such as ourselves to program it for you. The key is coded to the car. The old key would be deleted from the system so it won't start the car, but it could still open it.

Yes a new key chip can be programmed into the dash panel and in this process all old keys become unusable. I think you can programme up to 3 keys.

Thanks for the replies chaps!

I've ordered a new set of keys from Clock Garage in Spondon as this is closest to the car - when they arrive (hopefully before Christmas!!) we can then get into the car and tow it to their workshop when the new pair of keys will be coded to the car.

Total cost of theft;

Keys x2 £93 +VAT

Coding £36 +VAT

Blackberry £150-200

French door locks £65

Thanks crack heads!! :evil:

Are you not worried about them stealing the car? I'd be bricking it! I don't mean to cause extra worry but it's something that could happen if your Girlfriends bag contained the address of where the car is kept? Driving licence for example? Or even if the cars in her works car park?

If this happens and you haven't told the insurance company that the keys were stolen prior I'm not sure how they'd look on it.
