rear shock advice

Featured Replies

due to my bump stops on both rear shocks totally disappearing, some advice on fitting new ones would be very welcome.i know the shocks need split to get them on but i am not too sure how easy it is to remove the shocks. has any one done it? likely length of time to do the job, tools i would need would be much appreciated also.

On my TDI changing them was very easy. Did not even need to use any spring compressors.

iirc, I supported the bottom of the shock with my trolley jack, undid the bolt at the bottom, removed the couple of retaining bolts at the top, and lowered it out.....

My bump stops were knackered too. I changed them when changing the shocks.

agree with mbames, as said put a trolley jack under so you can jack up the bottom to the correct height blah blah, should be pretty simple 10minute job! :)

Yep rears are really straightforward to do.

As above easy job to do. Just remember to put the little rubber thingy back on the top before you bolt the shock absorber back in.

ok guys thanks a lot. it doesnt sound too bad then. not sure about 10 minutes though! whats needed to split the shocker allen key and spanner and does any one know what sizes?

you need mole grips or similar not an allen key for the top of the shock absorber, it has a flat bit on the top, hold that and then use a spanner to remove the nut. You will need a crowsfoot spanner if you want to torque it back up properly, or you can just use a normal spanner and guess.

You need a splitter for the front shocks to get the hub assembly off, but not for the rears.

thanks a lot. i thought there was an allen key shape in the middle of the ram, but if its just a spanner or grips needed thats a bit easier. thanks again.
