it just seems to light up the console and runs as you can hear fan etc, no ylod light... dont really wanna buy another hdmi cable to check it

Have you tried pressing and holding the power button on the console when switching it on?

Try it with the red White and yellow AV cable plugged into an AV port to see if it's the cable or the console.

If you have it plugged in via HDMI it will need this being plugged in first either with the scart or the above. I think an update later curred this problem but it should work fine once you have set it up for HDMI.

I also have problems with my PS3 not showing up on screen, I have done various little tests myself now, and know for sure its the HDMI cable that is faulty. I have to straighten the cable out completely, and then suddenly the picture is restored. Rather annoying if you are in the middle of a game though! At least I know its not the console though, as I am out of warranty now.

So basically, give the cable a good workout, and see if you get a picture.
