directional tyres

Featured Replies

looking to buy 4 new tyres for my vrs, have been told that directional tyres make more noise than biderectional, is this true ? most tyres these days are directional, are biderectional going out of fashion or are directional tyres a better design allround ?

Theoretically, directionals make more noise than some assymetrics, because you have at least 2, often 4 and sometimes 6 leading block edges striking tarmac simultaneously. That said, when I fitted directionals to replace non-directionals, they proved quieter (based on coming and going from fitters). and I find that the road surface makes more difference to tyre roar than the tread design does anyway.

I found that something like an Eagle F1 (directional) was noisier than a bi-directional Falken FK452, with pretty standard tread pattern.

So I'd avoid directional on the Octy.
