Fuel consumption on my Octavia VRS TDI PD 170

Featured Replies

Managed 480 miles to this tank which included a drive to Cornwall and London so happy with that.

On a PD140 I have managed 620 miles out of a tank on long motorway runs at 70mph.

I normally get around 500-550 though out of a tank.

I have been using fuelly to monitor my fuel consumption since I got the car - it is averaging 47ish but has dropped quite a bit in the cold weather.

Just had a Shark remap done so waiting for the temperatures to come back up so that I can see if I am getting any better mpg. Only problem is it soooo tempting to boot it in 2nd and 3rd now :giggle:

Yep, my last tank consumption suffered quite a bit due to the cold weather. Car taking longer to get upto temp, idling while clearing ice and snow, using more fuel while on the move with the colder air, plus I did mostly urban driving. Ah well, there'll be good tanks and bad tanks :)

Yes

As far as im aware Nobody has uprated a Turbo on a PD170 yet, ive had discussions with Turbo Dynamics about it and a Hybrid PD170 Turbo wont offer anything other than lovering the stress on the Turbo

Big Turbo is the only way forward

Yep, as I thought. Does also make me think Awesome's torque calcs on the rollers need looking at. My last couple of runs on there have come back with some larger than expected values :)

Mmmmmm......360lbs ft on a standard clutch.....I don't think so, ( your clutch WOULD be toast!) there has always been a bit of controversy about the figures that AGTI get on the rollers, in general the dynojet rolling roads are a bit optimistic to say the least!! I'd take it on a Dyno Dynamics RR, generally regarded as the most accurate machines.

Here is some data I have taken from my Fuelly account I have been using ever since I got my vRS. She was standard when I bought her but on 21/10/10 she had a Shark Stage 1 Re-Map and DPF Removal - the fill-up listed for that day was after the work had been completed. I have a 15 mile commute each day which is a mixture of dual carriageway and stop-start traffic and she usually stretches her legs at the weekends ;)

As you can see from my sig since I have owned her she has averaged 37.4 mpg over 4,048 miles - it's a heck of a lot better than my previous mk5 Golf GTi :giggle:

Date Miles Litres Price Tank MPG

03/01/11 411.8 46.791 £1.30 40.0

26/12/10 392.0 50.191 £1.29 35.5

15/12/10 391.9 51.512 £1.27 34.6

04/12/10 392.4 48.491 £1.23 36.8

20/11/10 422.8 51.270 £1.24 37.5

10/11/10 365.8 46.841 £1.30 35.5

30/10/10 399.1 48.820 £1.30 37.2

21/10/10 443.0 51.281 £1.23 39.3

16/10/10 389.2 49.131 £1.28 36.0

05/10/10 440.1 47.091 £1.20 42.5

Sorry for the poor formatting of the above - I don't seem to be able to alter it!!
