Is the battery in good order? When its really cold mine will take 2 attempts to start now and again, usually a sign that the battery is on its last legs

could be your starters on its way out just had mine changed and it starts first time now

If you have a spare battery or jump starter try starting with it. If it's starts like a good one then there's your problem.

Mine's been a bit sluggish recently as probably a lot have due to the cold weather.

It sounds like glowplugs. Did you check that power was reaching the glowplugs or did you just change them?

If they are not getting power then check Relay 103

Give it a whiff of "Easy Start" up the air cleaner, never fails.

You don't say which TDI it is, but if it's a non-pd and you've had the cam belt changed it may be worth getting the pump timing checked by someone with Vag-com. If the timing is out, it can lead to poor cold starting.

Trouble is with this one I've heard of car getting 'addicted' to it.
