Drivers side door lock

Featured Replies

Hi,

I can’t unlock my car using the drives side lock. The key will go in but the barrel will not turn. I can unlock the car with the key fob.

I’ve applied loads of hot water, just incase it’s frozen… no luck.

I’ve also tried some of this graphite lock lubricant, (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=444745), which seems to be recommended over WD40 but it’s made no difference (apart from staining my fingers black)

I’m wondering if it is the barrel or some other part of the door lock mechanism?

Any thoughts?

I take it that it used to undo the door??

If you can't free it, it's a 5 minute job to get the lock barrel out, so don't force it and do more damage!!!

To be honest, i've only had the car since August and haven’t tested the barrel until now (I know, should have checked the car more thoroughly) so don't know if it ever worked.

If the barrel is FUBAR, is it possible to get a replacement that will work with my current key?

Not sure, although someone will know I'm sure. I guess a door lock and steering lock won't be too much from ebay, but not so sure about reprogramming the keys.

My guess, if you get the lock out, attack inside and outside with WD40 should cure it!
