CALLING ALL PD160 INTAKE OWNERS!

Featured Replies

good evening all, and a happy xmas to all first and foremost :)

the time has come where i would like to purchase a pd160 intake without paying the price tag of course lol a never ending saga on this forum :( i would just like to post a request to anybody that has one lying around thats not being used or is willing to sell there own? i know these things are like gold dust.

im torn between buying the intake for £88 or a K&N 57i induction kit for £80. the induction kit has the filter etc with it as you all know which would mean that i would not need to spend further cash on a panel filter. however im concerned with the noise effects of the kit? i dont want it to sound like a chavy piece of crap to be brutally honest.

also concerned on the correct installation of the kit, the filter would need to be located down at the front grill for best effect or else i will loose performance rather than gain it. (yes i kno gains are minimal to none but you get the idea) whereas with the pd160 the pipe is easily installed and maintains the standard look and will have a great supply of cold air.

i would like to know if there is anyone out there with an induction kit installed correctly? ive heard the term cold air feeds but i assume that this is just locating the filter down at the front gril? please correct me if i am wrong :)pictures please :)

also if there is none could i please have some advise on how hard it might be to relocate the cone filter to the front of the engine bay as close to the grill as possible please?

and its not just K&N kits, any induction kit which has been relocated will be super for just a general idea :)

many many thanks, and again happy xmas :)

jordan :)

When i had my vRS i ran an induction kit from a BMW M3! ;) Located it into the airbox so it was part shielded from the engine and still retained the cold air feed  If you do fit this type of kit, heatsoak from the engine is a defo UNLESS you can get some sort of heat shield

The other alternative could be an enclosed induction kit like a BMC CDA, i have one fitted on my octy, sounds nice and FAR from chavvy, plus you can run the cold air feed to the slam panel and use the existing trumpet part :D

not needed on a donkey diseasel.... they run on excess air... now the pd160 intake is a crazy price not worth the cash at all... save your pennies and buy some BEER for BEERSMAS

I run a PD160 on the VRS, but I just binned all the pipe work off the Touran that leads to the bottom of the airbox - the touran is louder and seems to pull just as well as the VRS!

Iv read on here about induction kits damaging the maf sensor or something.

where did you hear this? cause ive heard that they run on very little air lol either way it wont make much of a difference, but i spoke to the guy at torque tronix and he siad the intak is good for about 10bhp!!!!! because the existing one is very restrictive the new one will allow him to alter the air to fuel mixture and get more from the engine. i know this is nothing like iv ever read of heard about, but my friend have a 03 fr ibiza and took it to him to be mapped, its running 197bhp from a map, pd160 intake and itg filter. they also use a dyno hub i think its called which is very accurate. so on a RR it would be the equivilant of 200+

No, its not. Or at least it won't be for very long.

The PD160 intake is worth about zero horsepower, apparently it reduces smoke and allows the engine to be freer (?) revving. I have one, but I paid pennies. Would I buy on now, nope. Save you money; spend it on beer; buy a cheap easyjet flight... anything really.

Happy Christmas all! :D

whoever this person is doesn't seem to know too much

197bhp on a pd130 turbo from a map pd160 and filter.... his rr is over-reading by 25-30bhp

a 130 turbo will not make much more than 170bhp (ever) unless its a hybrid

i did try telling him that diesels run on excess air but he didnt want any of it lol he was saying the induction system plays a huge role in the power of the engine and that it would give 10bhp. i was very surprised myself as ive never read anywhere that it improves power.

altho i thought it was possible to take the pd130 to around 190bhp altho that it would be running on the limit?

the guy also mentioned about the kkk and garrett turbos which i know is true but didnt realise that there was a massive difference between them, also i was pretty sure that seat used kkk too?

im swaying to the induction kit again? lol shud i buy that instead of the intake? the induction kit will provide more air and breath better than the intake anyway.

I was told by some diesel experts that the later cars (Fabia VRS') came out of the factory already tuned to about 150bhp so hence its quite possible to get the 182 bhp I have. I would probably think the PD160 is a must for cars that have near that factory fresh power. The only reason I would have a PD160 would be to cut down on smoke emissions but have not got a clue if the PD160 would achieve that aim. Happy Xmax by the way one of our presents to both of us it some brand new VRS floor mats.

Air filter will give you next to nothing....

a pd130 may run at 190bhp but for how long? 3 seconds of boost and it would be toast

there isn't much difference between the kkk and garrett...

the possible reason you see all these kkk failures is due to the fact that around 99% of fabia vrs's have the kkk turbo

i doubt the garrett will be much stronger if at all

yes your right there...

its to do with the engine code... BLT engines have a different EGR setup which is good for 10% more bhp supposedly....

standard ASZ engines usually make around 140bhp and the BLT's around 150bhp

BUT its all dyno lottery... whats 10-20bhp.... naff all!
