Folding Key

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Would it be possible to get a folding key made? If so how much would it cost?

About

Occasionally one will show up on ebay. Am not sure if you can make one though.

Assuming that they can put the immobiliser codes on it, you can probably pick one up from any VAG dealer and get them to recode it to your car.... my mate just had one replaced for his Audi when his other half lost the key...... :)

Chris

Any idea how much one would be from the dealer please? I've always found this a total pain in the backside having a single set of keys with my existing car and got told the Furby vRS would come with two sets.

Shame the second set is a rubbish one :(

Just spoken to my mate. He says the local Audi dealer charged him

Sounds about right - a second set of keys of my Rover 100 would be dead-handy as the alarm will go off without it ;)

I was quoted 75 quid all-in but those keys are a lot cheaper than the VAG ones.

Thanks for posting back the info, much appreciated :D

(makes notes to take to dealer ;) )

My dealer told me that if for example, you snap the folding key part - there's a small pin hole where it folds out, which can be used to remove the actual folding keypart so you can keep the remote fob.

They said as long as you haven't snapped the 'groove' cut into the key, locksmiths can reproduce and put a new one onto the fob for you. Not all locksmiths, but some do have access to these folding key parts apparantly. He did tell me the name of one locally to me, but I don't remember :o

I had a chat this evening to someone who is in the process of getting a second coded key from his dealer. The cost to him is around

The Fabia vRS should come with two folding keys as standard. Do you mean you only have one?

I have none at the moment - still awaiting the car itself ;). However I was led to believe by the guy in sales it was going to be a key only, without a remote?

If they are both folding ones, I'll be quite happy & I'll have to eat my words <\del><\del> - which would be good :D

Stands corrected in that case :)

Reason I thought this was the case was the Skoda accessories booklet I got when checking out the specs, where it shows the remote keyfob thing with 2 buttons on it.

Tnx for the correction :D

Fabia vRS should have two folding keys with three button on each.

I confirm the documentation you've seen, which I also noticed, IS incorrect - the vRS does come with two identical folding keys...

Nice one :D - hey I'm not complaining, just glad the docs & info I got told originally were wrong, the folding key is much nicer looking and it won't damage pockets as easily (or more usual, push itself into your leg (or worse  ) into other parts of your body at unopportune moments ;) )

Good stuff :D

...the folding key is much nicer looking and it won't damage pockets as easily...

...but it is quite bulky/heavy, and I find myself walking along with hands in pockets operating the damn thing all the time!!!

Got a blue LED light on my keyring - pressie from Mrs - so I can press the button on that :D
