G'day All,

My order has been placed for a new Octavia 4x4, called a Scout in Australia. Trouble is it won't arrive until May 2011 - this model will come as 2.0L 103KW TDI turbo charged with DSG. The other interesting issue is that in Australia, Skoda are quuite shy and do not advertise strongly, so it's difficult to find info about the 2011 models. For example, the dealer couldn't tell me whether the DSG will come with the same electronic off road system that the new Yeti and the Tiguan have. His reponse was that it has a Haldex clutch, but I thought that this was only in manuals - it is a clutch afterall and I wouldn't expect to see that in an automatic, especially a DSG.

Cheers and Happy New Year (hope the weather improves over there :-) )

Welcome matey.

Hi, the Haldex cluch, which sits just in front of the rear axle, just connects your rear axle to the gearbox as required by the electronics. It has nothing to do with your DSG gearbox. I don't think the Octavia has the hill descent control as the Yeti but does have the eLSD on the font axle. Hope this helps.

G'day Fatlip,

Thanks for that - you've answered my question about the haldex clutch.

A friend has a Tiguan that has a "push-of-the-button' off road system that is also in the new Yeti. This acts like a hub locking system so that all four wheels are locked into four wheel drive rather than a traction control system that applies "power" to the wheels most in need. He said that it is a real bonus in mud and snow and was well worth the relatively small price he paid for it as an option. I have been trying to find out whether the 2011 Scout (with DSG) will also have the same off road system so that I can include it in my order (before my car is built ) .

Thanks again.
