Fabia vRS estate-What options would you guys get

Featured Replies

hey up guys. I ended up retrofitting alot of modifications on my octavia vRS after buying because i didnt research the options available.

so the wife wants a fabia vRS, i wouldn't mind a fabia vRS. So its highly likely i'll order one with this new VAT free jobbie thats gong on in the new year.

what options would youguys recommend or wish youhad ordered.

I'll 100% be getting the :

cruise control

reversing sensors

thinking white estate, with the black wheels

Are there any uprated trip computer options, like maxidot on the octavia?

Cant find any better stereo options. jut the 2 disc 'swing' radio.

MDI cable. Ive read that this is standard on the vRS. so is the swing radio fully compatible with the IPOD, ie you casn go through the IPOD menu on the stereo and via the steering wheel?

Hi just ordered one and went for quite a long list :)

silver with black roof

Climate control

Electric sun roof

Sat nav

Rear electric windows

Front arm rest

2 under seat storage boxes

Grey/chrome alloys

Projector lights

Mats

Long list but I want the car to my liking !

Hope this helps

MATS are you kidding. Are they not standard: off to have a look at the brochure again...

under seat storage boxes are a good idea. Cant bring myself to buy the sat nav. Not when i have a really good tom tom.

Yep , I have a new Tom Tom hence did not both with sat nav.

The mats , storage boxes came with the Mk I vRS unfortunately they are not part of the standard equipment list of the Mk II vRS.

Also , mud flaps - seems as though front ones ( Part No KEA 700001 ) fit OK but problems with fitting the rear ??( Part No KEA 710001)

I find it a major let down that the new vrs doesn't have xenon headlights where as the old one did ! :(

they "bend" to go around the corners when the wheel is turned. Not worth it really unless you have massively powerful headlights like the bi-xenons in our Superb and even then they don`t make much difference. Cornering foglights (the one on the corner your turning towards switches on) are much better and make much more of a difference.

As per my car`s headlights - the "projector" headlights are what appears to be the "fish-eye" lenses, if the car was fitted with them then the reflector turns to "bend" the light beam around the corner without the lightbulb actually moving.

I bought an early VRS that was built and on its way to a dealer, which almost matched my ideal-spec.

The options I got are;

Cruise; Mis-named essential license keeping technology even in 30mph zones.

Reversing sensors; Integrate well with the Swing stereo, which lowers the volume to a preset level so you can hear the idiot-beeps and displays a pictorial on screen. You get lazy with these though. I get in my wifes car and reverse whilst waiting for the idiot-beeps. But she has no sensors so I just get a crunch or a splat depending on what I hit.

Bluetooth phone prep; I have fitted lots of aftermarket Bluetooth stereos/devices in previous cars. This system works pretty well. You need a sense of humour if using the voice control though.

Steering wheel buttons; You need these with the phone prep.

Climate; Personally I could live without this but each to his own. I was lucky enough to have my new VRS in the heat of summer and the climate whacks the fan speed right up to try and cool the cabin down. I found myself getting tired of the noise and taking control of things myself.

Sunglasses holder; what were they thinking, well it was only £15.

2 tone wheels; Personally I am a shiny chrome wheel man, black wheels are the emperors clothes for me, although white ones sort-of work for me with a rally-esque body colour combination. These 2-tones have grown on me, and the local kids think they’re way cool mister, along with the LED DRLs. You decide if this is a recommendation or otherwise.

What I should have got;

Heated seats. Luxurious. If you’ve had them you will know. Had them in the Mk1 Fab TDi and wouldn’t have believed how much use they got. Admittedly the petrol VRS engine heats up much quicker but I still miss them.

Light washers; the lights need all the assistance they can get to keep up with the cars performance.

Stereo; the Swing is just ok. With an Iphone plugged in the MDI you can navigate through your music via the stereo, and skip tracks from the steering wheel buttons. You can also display track info on the Maxidot. If you have a lot of music it can be tedious scrolling sideways through 2000 albums. I have solved this with a cheap hard disc drive and a good file index system.

Yes get the headlight washers - only £80 I think. You get a bigger washer reservoir (5.4 litres instead of 3.6 litres) and more importantly a dashboard warning light to tell you when the water level is getting low.

Heated seats. Have had them on every Skoda we've had and are now on our fifth . . . . . . They've been very welcome this winter!

what is this 'projector' lights option. is this the new zenons?

No, they still use halogen bulbs I believe

im off for a test drive at 11. they only have the hatch in though

Ordered the projector units as felt they should help although understand they are non xenon equivalent.

Floor mats I was told is best to order with the car as they also attracted the VAT discount offer

So what mods are able to be installed retrospectively?

Cruise control? I added this ato my octavia vRS about a year after buying it, was a chheap add on as well.

Sat NAV stereo? Its obviously quite a bit bigger, so is a new fascia swap required as well?

Under seat storage boxes and glasses storage? can these be added in after?

anyone?

I believe the boxes and sunglass holder can be ordered from the dealer as an accessory. No idea about after market cruise control. Would think the Factory Sat Nav is only a factory fit as believe it changes the lay out of the heating controls when I have seen pictures of cars with it vs without it.

Hope this helps

Yes that can be retro-fitted, quite a few specialists can do it and make it look like a factory fit item. Dealership won`t though.

Sat NAV stereo? Its obviously quite a bit bigger, so is a new fascia swap required as well?

Not that I know. Dealership have told me this can`t be done retrospectively, it requires some extra electronics to be fitted to the stereo at the factory. IF you want sat-nav it has to be factory ordered or an aftermarket unit - cheapest decent looking unit I have found is £1000.

Under seat storage boxes and glasses storage? can these be added in after?

Yes and no, Storage boxes etc - anything like this can be dealer fitted. Glasses storage no, it requires a different shape headliner to be installed at the factory as it replaces part of the headlining in front of the interior lights, as far as I know, if its not fitted the headlining "bulge" the lights and glasses pocket goes into is smaller if you dont have the glasses holder.

When I placed the order for my VRS TSI in July the dealer told me that sat nav was not an option! The Skoda website did list it as an option but now the website has been updated and it is not shown now.

Go to http://www.skoda.co.uk/ourcars.aspx select Facts and Figures then Standard and Optional Features. Select VRS Hatchback in the drop down list and then scroll down to 'Optional Equipment'. If not using a wheeled mouse make sure you grab the top of the green slider on the right hand side of the frame.

Dealer is going to ring Skoda UK to find out about the Sat Nav.

Ordered on 27th December and it was an option on line, plus it was shown in all the brochures as an option in the show room.

Sorry you had problems.

Here's one in white with a black roof and black alloys - exactly like the one I'll be picking up in a couple of weeks (hopefully!)

Candy white, black roof, black alloys

Very good. On the satnav question, you could retrofit a Columbus in there. Same routine as the Octy2 fitment really. Or maybe a Bolero as a half-way house if you don't like the Swing.

As for mods, just look to Ross's Beeza for inspiration. Some nice Forge bits available :)

cant really see the roof so much in those photos. but it doesnt look bad. nohing that cant be wrapped at a later date. Im not a fan of the chrome grill so im thinking ill get it sprayed either body colour, or black like the rest of the grill. not sure what would look best

What made you change your mind and go for the hatch in the end?
