How much is our Fabia worth?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

We are looking to sell our little 1.4 Fabia Classic soon as GF has an Astra SRi and I will be getting another Civic VTi so we'd like to be able to sell the Fabia at a sensible price so it goes reasonably quickly.

Good points are its got approx 9 months MOT and tax, and the mileage is lower than 60k.

Cars not mint but in good condition.

Car was owned by Hannah's Dad before us who bought it from new and always had it dealer serviced, we have looked after the basics ourselves as I'm a qualified motorcycle mechanic.

Any ideas what we should put her up for? Prices seem to vary from £1k to £1.5k.....

Thanks in advance - Ben

We'll need to know the year and number of owners. Does it have the plus pack (electric front windows and remote locking) and does it have air-con?

What colour is it?

Two owners, me and my dad. My dad bought it brand new in 2002 (FP02 ***) and he gave it to me in Feb 2008 (aren't dads great!). It doesn't have the plus pack, it's just a bog standard 1.4 Classic. It's a dark green colour. Me being an idiot, although I have the original skoda wallet with the owners manual etc I can't find the service manual (I'm not giving up hope of finding it yet)! I do however have a stack of old MOTs and invoices from the main dealer that my dad gave me.

Have a look here for some useful sites to value your car.

Bizarrely a number of responses, including mine, seem to have vanished from my screen so I'll try again!

Cheers for the links folks

Glasses valued it between £1100 and £825. I've had a look at various cars available to buy at the same age/mileage/condition/trim level as mine and people seem to be trying to sell them for silly money (the most expensive being £2495!!!). I'll stick it up for £1200ono and just see what happens.

TBH, I got £1,150 trade in in March for a 1.4 16v Comfort estate with over 100k on the clock in not very good condition, so you maybe aiming a bit low there really. Can always start high and go lower. Also, pistonheads allows free advertising and has a lot of visitors - worth trying.

Its the dead time of year for car sales, so don't expect miracles. Seen 02 plate ones on Auto Trader recently for £1200-£1500 in average nick. The base model isn't that 'desirable' either, due to the keep fit windows and keep fit locks.

Found a trade ad for a 52 plate Comfort at under £1500, so private would be much less...

Really, i'm sure i remember having to pay for an advert on pistonheads not so long back (3-4months back)

When I tried (and failed!) to shift my Polo in the autumn, you could have a free advert, or a paid for one (either £5 or £15, a multiple of 5 either way).

The main differences being that paid had a max. of 9 images, free was 3. And paid for had better placement, as all free adverts came after the paid for ones, regardless of the search filters. (So if done by price, a free advert would come last in a list regardless of where it came based on the list price.)

(Although it is worth noting - to advertise on this forum you do need to pay to join FREEDOM, so maybe worth investing in that, a more targetted audience.)

Do the old 'card in the supermarket' too. Costs nowt too normally..

And a sign in the window of the car. Tried all those too with the card in the supermarkets - most (maybe 100%) of my interest was off PH's advert.

As long as I get a minimum of £1k I'm happy!

I've used pistonheads classifieds in the past for motorbikes and it's always served me well, never tried it for cars but I definitely will do. The one place I'll never sell a vehicle is ebay, I tried selling my Yamaha R6 on ebay last year and the grief I got from the endless numpties wasn't worth it. Sold it via pistonheads in the end no problem.

Will try the poster in car method too and see if that brings any luck, either way it needs to go cos our drive isn't big enough for 3 cars!!

Also ask around at work. You never know...

I'm looking for a fabia at the moment and have seen about 5 around £1000 and these have sold before i have even had a chance to look at them, sometimes within a day of being put up, not sure if this is just the London/Surrey area but they seem to sell pretty quick around here

So i would say it depends on if you want to wait the extra time for the extra money

Sometimes places will list cars at cheap prices that they never had in the first place just to get you to come round and try get you interested in the rest of their stock. Quite common on Autotrader.

most of the cars i rang about where private but i have heard of dealers using that tactic
