VRS Seat base digging into leg - what to do?!

Featured Replies

I took my new vrs for its first proper run (5 hour round journey) yesterday and I can say that my right leg was truly uncomfortable by the end of the journey. I considered my driving position but if I'm honest I don't have a lit if choice- it's the same as any car that I fit in. Seat right back and as low as it can go, at 6ft8 I don't get a lot of choice! I was considering a cushion to raise above the bolsters for longer sedate journeys and just going faster for shorter runs!

If you can physically feel the plastic insert in the seat bolster then there's little you can do bar swapping seats or have them re-covered with different material to reduce this effect.

However, I had this very same problem in my vRS (and other vehicles too) and finally accepted I was the problem! I had an office job, sat at the PC most of the day and doing little exercise at the time so the muscles, tendons and ligaments around my hip. lower back and backside were extremely stiff and causing the problem. Chances are your pelvis is slightly out of line as a result.

Resolved fairly quickly with a few deep tissue massages and stretching to improve flexibility! One quick test for you - lie on your back, get a tennis ball and put it under your buttocks and lower back and gently let your body weight rest on it in different positions then repeat to the hip area whilst laid on your side. If you get significant pain and can't relax to let your whole body weight onto the ball then you know you're out of condition and it needs attention.

If you can bare it then find any trigger points (areas of pain) and relax as much as you can for 30 seconds and the pain should, with time, start to fade. Keeps repeating this daily, ideally as often as you can, and if you loosen up then you may see improvement in the seating problem. With the ball you're doing pretty much the same as deep tissue massage, without the lovely lady!

I'm tall and heavy and always used to ride with the seat at it's lowest point but since experiencing these problems I raised my seat height to bring my hips higher and more in line with my knees and this too helped.

Hope this helps.

Ive always felt Skoda could give a bit extra on thier seats , my Octavia Elegance 11' plate was the same as is my new Blackline in leather, though since moving the seat back and also the stearing wheel I feel much more comfortable.

Swap for standard seats with flatter cushions. Then when you sell you can put a pristine driver's seat back in!
