Here are Skoda's offerings:-

Adaptation of an existing design - pretty poor with a range of only 87 miles. Who are they kidding ? Not very inspiring.

This is a bit more like it styling wise :-

But the range is only 65 miles !!!

So basically only a 5 mile each way commuting car, assuming a charge once a week - lets face it, you'd be unwise to let the battery pack fully deplete, so that would mean at least a re-charge twice every week. Given that the availability of fast charge points (2 hours @ 32A) in public places is going to be extremely limited at first, that would mean that most charging will be done at home on slow charges(6 hrs) at domestic electricity supply rates (16A).

And the battery pack weighs 600 lb ( i.e. 2.5 peoples' weight) A 10 gallon petrol tank fully loaded only weighs 100lb. Get real. Lets have some real design effort/innovation. You be better off, weight wise with a boot load of polyester capacitors.

How's it going to compete from a convenience point of view with hydro-carbon cars. I do a 6 mile each way commuting journey weekdays which with minor excursions and leisure gives a monthly mileage of 350-380. And therefore, I only refill the tank once a month.

They are going to have to do better than that.

Either better the range or install, very quickly, a shed load of charging points - perhaps lamp standards could be adapted ?

And where's at least the roof /bonnet mounted solar cells (The concept future camper seems to have them ) :-

I presume that none of these basic models have got an energy recovery system, so why therefore haven't the early models got a small 50 - 100 cc generator/dynamo or at least a reserve battery capacity ( Like the original VW beetle) "Get-you-home" facility - it just won't take off otherwise and when it does AA/RAC/Greenflag will have a field day.

CUSTOMER SPEAKING !!
