Skoda Fabia 3 Estate - Remote Key Fob Synchronisation

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a Skoda Fabia 3 Estate. It was left in the garage over Christmas, for just over a week. I went to move it last night and found my key fob no longer worked. I tried the spare key fob, and that no longer works!

I can open the door with the key, giving me 15 seconds to turn on the ignition before the alarm sounds.

I have tried following the instruction in the manual for synchronising but I don’t think it is clear in explaining what to do – ‘press any button on the remote control. Pressing of the button means that the door will unlock with the key within 1 minute’ – that’s it! Well the door opens with the key regardless! I have pressed a button and waited 1 minute, but nothing happened.

Can someone please help and explain what it is I need to do?

Thank you!

Cen

Hi, happy new year.

You should press any button on your key fob (the unlock button since the car is locked) and within a minute unlock manually the car. You should not unlock the car after the minute passes.

I did it many years ago, when i owned an Octavia.

1. I putted the key into the driver's door keyhole.

2. Pressed the unlock button.

3. Turned the key to unlock the car.

After that the remote locking / unlocking function of the key fob returned and everything was working till the day i sold my Octavia. Hope i helped you, good luck.

Hi, thank you and Happy New Year to you too.

Many thanks for your advice.

I stuck my key on the drivers door lock, pressed the unlock button once, waited 5 seconds and then unlocked the door with the key. I then put the key in the ignition and turned over the engine to ensure the alarm wouldn't engage.

After turning off the ignition, shutting the car door, I tried the remote - nothing.

Does this therefore point to something more serious? Should I be driving the car?

I will book it into a dealership next week.

Regards

Cen

Hi, since the car starts you can drive it but keep in mind that i am not a car mechanic. As about your key fob now. Are you sure that the battery of the remote key fob unit is in good condition? It looks like that the battery is dead. Try to change the battery, then try to lock or unlock the car remotely. If nothing happens try to synchronize again the key. If you are still unable to operate remotely the key maybe your key - car needs to be reprogrammed with vag-com or vcds unit by a dealer.

I wish it is just a key fob battery change issue and nothing more. See here how to do it and have no fear trying it, it is almost impossible to brake something. I did it three times, every two to three years.
