What MPG are people getting from the 1.6 petrol?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm wondering what sort of mpg others are seeing from the 1.6 petrol Fabia II - especially the automatic (6-speed) gearbox. Ours seems to return around 33mpg in mixed town and main road driving, which ain't terribly impressive for a fairly small car that changes up pretty early. Our old Audi A3 1.8T manual gave that or better and we never spared the right foot or changed gear with economy first in mind with that car!

Anyone else able to report back on economy or lack of it from the 1.6 ?

Thanks!

Jeff

Well, my 1.6 manual is pretty "thirsty"

Urban consumption is about 9l/100km if I drive normally, but it goes up to 12.5-13l/100km in cold weather when I`m driving like a maniac :giggle:

And this is when I fill it up with Europremium...

Our 1.6 auto, which rearly does a round trip of more than 3 miles, is showing an average of 27.5 mpg on the trip computer No.2 setting, can't remember when it was last reset and I've never checked it for accuracy.

When I took it on the 30 mile round trip (mostly motorway at legal speed) the other day, I got a one trip average of 36 mpg showing.

So I guess your figure is about what I'd expect for a car in 'normal' use.

jesus christ. i could manage more than that in my octavia vRS 2.0T which was running about 270hp+ and weighed nearly 1500kg.

Was perusing the fabia brochure again earlier. cant believe the Greenline 1.2 TDIs hit over 90mpg :o

Yes, but look at the use, most trips are less then 3 miles, any car will drink fuel with that use.

Thanks guys, sounds like ours is pretty normal and the 1.6 engine is just a thirsty little b**ger! Guess it's not one of VAG's better engines - we chose it for being a bit livelier than the smaller engines.

Still, it's managing slightly (3~4mpg) more than my 3-litre, 2-tonne Merc does on similar runs, can't be bad for a little car, well done VAG :giggle:

My mother has a 1.6 petrol Sport on a 58 plate manual gearbox and it returns 43 -45 mpg in normal urban driving , I have checked this by filling up to the brim covering 120 miles and refilling using the same fuel pump .

Unfortunately your never going to get as good MPG on an Automatic transmission just the price you have to pay for a Lazy person's gearbox

My manual 105bhp petrol '57 reg. Fabia does around 40mpg but I do have a 25 mile commute. Love the car!
