Meeting Vw 503.00/506.00 Specs....

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I have a 2002 Skoda Octavia L&K 1.8T and I dont find the manual. (maybe is at the dealer)

Could it be possible that you tell me what is the correct number that meeting the VW Group for the 2002 Skoda Octavia L&K 1.8T engine code AGU.

There is:

VW Group 501.01/505.00

VW Group 500.00/505.00, 505.01

VW Group 503.00/506.00, 506.01

THX,

Isaac

I was going to say 503 00 or an oil meeting 503 00/506 00/506 01 such as Castrol SLX Longlife II - a 0W-30 fully synthetic longlife oil. However the AGU 1.8T engine was replaced by the AUM (and derivatives) in the European market from 08/00 and it is these later engines which are designed to use longlife oils. Perhaps one of our Octavia owners with the AGU engine (pre 08/00, cable throttle and non-VVT) could check their handbook and advise Turbo-Boss.

Hey Dennis, whats up? Could it be possible that the AGU and AUM engine block are the same? Could it be possible all this engines block are made in the same assembly line and the only diferences is that the AUM has V V T and and Fly by Wire Throtle??

I am using at the present time Castrol 0W-30 Full Synthetic and changing my oil every 5,000 KMs

I live in Panama Central America and here the weather is very hot and I want to know it this oil is giving me the right protecction.

At the Skoda dealer, they are using 10W-30 inexpensive oil:eek: and they only toll me that in Europe Skoda is using 0W-30 synthetic and is ok to use it here.

So I really want to here what you people think about this.

THX,

Isaac

Best to ask Speedy G from Colombia - he has an AGU too, and is from your part of the world.

His AGU isn't quite the original 150 hp engine anymore, though... :D

Check the vehicle data sticker which is on the inside cover of the Service Schedule and on the boot floor beneath the mat. Check the list of optional equipment and see whether QG0, QG1 or QG2 is listed.

QG0 and QG2 indicate vehicles with fixed service intervals while QG1 indicates vehicles with variable service intervals (although the dealer can set the vehicle for fixed service intervals).

The following oils are specified for QG0 and QG2 petrol engines:

Multigrade high lubricity oils: VW 500 00 (11/92 or later); VW 502 00 (01/97 or later)

Multigrade oils: VW 501 01 (11/92 or later); ACEA A2 or A3 - 96 (but only once for topping up between oil changes if no approved engine oil is available.)

And the following longlife oil is specified for QG1 petrol engines set for variable servicing (which yours isn't):

VW 503 00 (01/97 or later)

Hope that helps.

My car is QG0. I remember reading it on the manual and it says that QG0 is a fixed maintenance and I have to take the car to change oil when on the intrument panel center window says SERVICE......... In my car that is at every 5,000 kms

I know that the dealer can program the computer to says SERVICE at the Kilometers they want.

I live in Panama Central America and here the weather is very hot and I want to know and be sure that the 0W-30 Sinthetic is giving me the right protecction.

Bottom Line: Panama is very HOT, do that Sinthetic multigrade 0W-30 is OK for my weather????

I change this oil every 5,000 KMS

From the info I quoted from the Owner's Manual, I think that you should ideally be using VW 500 00 or 502 00 high lubricity oil. A quick Google search of VW 500 00 produced details of 5W-40 semi-synthetic and fully synthetic oils, and a 10W-40 synthetic oil. Likewise VW 502 00 comes in 0W-40 and 5W-40 synthetic versions. This site has details of a number of oils meeting VW 500 00 - all are SAE 40 oils. Given the choice I would opt for a 10W-40 synthetic oil for a very hot climate. Although I am a strong advocate of 0W-30 synthetic oil (VW 503 00/ 506 00/506 01) for cars on variable servicing, I would not use it in your case - nor is it recommended in the Owner's Manual. Moreover, petrol engine cars using that oil can go up to 20000 miles between oil changes - and diesels up to 30000 miles - so changing the oil every 5000 kms would be a total waste of its longlife capabilities and of money since it is expensive!

You also asked about mechanical differences between the AGU and AUM 1.8T petrol engine. In a nutshell, the cylinder block and pistons are different, as are the cylinder head with valves and camshaft.

Specifically, the cylinder head, camshafts, pistons, con rods and bearing shells are different, while the crankshaft, vibration damper, flywheel and clutch are the same. I'm going to guess that the lubrication requirements of those 2 engines are different in that the AUM is designed for extended service intervals in conjunction with VW 503 00 oil.

Ok, I beguin to use this oil at 5,000 KMs then a 10,000KMs and my car is now 12,500KMs So in the next oil change all will see if I put 0w-40 or 5w-40

So my question now is if you think I have done some damage to the engine using 0W-30.

I use the car conservatory but on a hi way I have run at 245 kms for 5 minutes then something like 180kms

I wouldn't worry at all. The engine should be a bit tight when new and you haven't done many miles.

How long a warranty do you have? Skoda give a 2 year/unlimited mileage warranty in Europe to which Skoda UK add a third year up to 60000 miles total. And what brand/make of oil have you been using?

Hey Dennis, thank you for your help in this matter. Here in Panama the Skoda Dealer give 2 years warranty or 50,000kms. This is a Small town so we dont do to many kms.

I am using Castrol Synthec 0W-30 (Full Synthetic) This is the same SLX castrol 0W-30 oil you have in Europe. (Panama Castrol distribuitor explain me this)

As I tell you before, I beguin to use this oil at the first 5,000kms schedule maintenace and then at the second maintenance at 11,500kms. I bought my car on Agust 2002 and today has 12,800KMS. My next oil change will be at 16,500kms.

So, what you think? Can I leave this oil in the engine and on my next oil change put Castrol Synthetic 5W-40.

I talk with the Castrol distribuitor and they toll me dont worry about and beguin to use the 5W-40 in my next oil change.

Isaac

Sounds OK to me, Isaac. As I said before, don't worry! :)

Does it matter what flavour oil I use in my car Denis? Assume that if I had a problem the dealer wouldn't be able to tell if I'd used the "right" or "wrong" stuff?

Yeah, but your oil doesn't stay in the engine long enough to matter, does it? :D

A good point. Hmm now I wonder if anyone could sell me 5l od Motul 10/60? Not so worried about the W bit at the moment

What for? Engine a bit worn? About to sell the car? Noisy gearbox? thinks.gif

Denis the Motul one I want is a motorsport oil and is ideal for high temperature running, at the Ring for example.

Not worried about the W mainly because its summer (alledgedly!)

Jon, the only address I could find for Motul 10W-60 was in California. I'm guessing that you know about Motul 300V 15W-50 Competition oil available from ScoobyShop. How about Agip Racing 10W-60 available from here. The fact that it is POA should impress you ...
