Peoples Perception of Skoda

Featured Replies

Lol, like one poster said.

"Laughing all the way to the bank!"

I quite like driving an old shape octavia. It's faster than a lot of cars, probably cheaper than most, and I can get away with some intersting manouveres in the town centre because people think I'm a taxi!

I read that earlier, lol

I get it all the time from people at work, even from a girl who recently bought an 03' reg megane despite my advise not too, and has subsequently spent a fortune on packed up heaters, head light bulb replacement (notoriously bad to get too, wheel off, wheel arch liner out) and some dodgy yet undiagnosed rattling and grinding from under the car.

Like one of hotukdealers says let people keep slagging off Skoda, it keeps them more of a better kept secret for us to enjoy.

haha classic! what a decision - a decent car or a French car?

fwiw if you have hands like a toddler you can change the headlight bulbs on a Megane ;)

Have the rear lights turned into fairy lights yet?

The last person what said to me "at the end of the day it's still a Skoda" actually drove a Vectra SRI. Damn pikey chav!

I still get the suprised looks from people when I say I have a Skoda! Always thoughg from people who know nothing about cars. Gave someone I know a lift recently, he drives a 10 year old Fiesta and asked if my Skoda was reliable!!!! then went on to say that servicing and parts must be very expensive and hard to get!!!! as i say, always people who have no idea about cars.

They are clearly dumber than a Yokel from the deep south in the land of the inbreeds...When all the car mags rave over Skodas, telling the world what great cars they actually are, and how crap stuff from the frogs is...And you just need to look at the sales figures in the UK...The slaggers are probably Vauxhall Rectum drivers, who wear their baseball caps on backwards, and think it looks cool...

I've driven numerous brands over the years, including an MG Maestro, and the most satisfying to own were the Skodas. French cars..Electrical nightmares..Managed to talk the other half into getting a Felicia, after her god awful and dangerous Clio RT. That had previously been owned by a CHAV, as it had fat 16 inch rims that looked so badly kerbed, and the steering was so badly knacked that it was like being in a 1950s American movie..I think the MOT on it was benter than an MP's expense account!

This little Felly we have has been in the same family since 3 years old, and every single tax disc was there, along with old MOT certs (and fail sheets), Skoda history up to 6 years old, then bills from a local garage up to this year's MOT :)

And I have owned a Furby, and when finances allow again, would love to get my paws on a vRS mk1. Had one on loan once from Pulleyn's, and loved it to bits. Fast, and fairly decent on jungle juice. I like Octy's too, and they do make a tough taxi. Roomy, with a nice big boot, and cheap. Every town you go in seems to have a fair few Octy taxis now.. Plus I know Plod like the Octy, and Yorkshire Ambulance Service have a fair few Octy Scouts in their fleet...

Ill informed sheep on that forum...

These were regular threads of discusion when the site was still small & the Octy Mk1 had only just been released.

We do still get the very odd person with the badge snobbery, but they either dont stay long, or buy a Skoda :D

What really makes me laugh is that the whole point of the thread is the Furby's price, is now waaay cheaper than either the VW or the SEAT, even comparing spec of cars.

Looks like a majority of the knockers would goto a market place & pay full over the top price for say an Armani suit expecting it to be the same quality. emoticon-0110-tongueout.gif

I like threads like that. Long may they continue.

It stops everyone driving one

That's a good point. Stops Skoda's becaoming common like Audi's

Very true and an interesting read - I only got to the end of page 2 before I got bored ot it all! :giggle: there are some idiots out there, Skodas have been great for years, even prior to the VW takeover. I have driven numerous other cars for test runs / company cars etc and skodas are still great in my eyes. Although I must admit I have strayed to a jap car as a 2nd / project car lol! I will always own a Skoda, they are cheap, reliable, fun to drive and economical to run. Let the badge snobs think what they want! I know which side my bread is buttered! Especially after watching a 10 plate Renault Modus struggling to start today!!

:) If ever I get annoyed with myself for being silly or making a mistake I shall look at that thread and remind myself how much cleverer I am [and us at Briskoda] than those idiots! ;)

Well, I am 20, I just recently bought the VRS (I genuinely love it) and I get this all the time.

As you can imagine, with my group of mates being around the same age, it always come down to the Skoda argument.

But then they tell me what they drive and I always have the last laugh :)

In all seriousness, this has been the comfiest, nicest looking (debatable by some), quickest car I have ever driven (and owned).

This particular post caught my attention for stupidty:

vw / audi may make skoda but you can tell the difference in the build quality i have driven many of all three makes and would rather have a vw or audi for there build quality and comfort

I can't tell the difference in build quality at all, driven both, so I am a neutral party on that front.

I would rather pay the extran and not have the SKODA badge, imagine meeting a bird and picking her up for a date in a SKODA....OMG

I'm still reading that thread, I'm chuckling.

Edit: The only annoying part of this post from a Skoda perspective is that it now costs the same as what I paid for a demo car about a month or so ago! Ah well... :smirk:

A good tale about badge snobbery...When I still lived with the folks, both me and the old fella tooled around in Felicias. (me an N reg GLX, and him an R reg LX). Next door had a Rover 600, and they both were badge snobs, saying Skodas were cheap & nasty etc...I then got a brand spanking Furby Classic in white on a 51 plate, and suddenly his missus wanted to have a nosey....She admitted to liking how it looked and felt....A few months later she gets a promotion at work...Next thing, a brand spanking Octavia TDi Elegance estate in Black Magic no less was sat on the driveway!! I took the mickey for ages after about their badge snobbery comments before..

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised yesterday, after spending a couple of hours cleaning the old girl the window cleaner strolled by (age bracket 18-22) and said " now thats an awesome looking vRS, I'm saving for a Skoda at the moment" very refreshing to hear.

TBH, I would prefer people to suffer from badge snoddery, that way Skoda's will stay cheaper, and more unique!

I find that people who actually know a bit about cars don't have a bad thing to say about the Skoda brand, and it's only people that know literally nothing about cars that start having a go. So it doesn't bother me at all. Most of my mates/family initially took the mick when I bought a Skoda, but as soon as they had a ride or drive they all instantly changed their minds! It was quite nice to sway people so easily!

I heard a funny one the other day. My dads mate was saying how his wife recently wanted a new car. This guy drives a BMW 320 diesel estate, and has an S2 Lotus Elise as his weekend car. He loves driving and cars, and he loves my car. He was blown away by the performance/quality/price of my car, so is now a Skoda fan. He recommended to his wife to get a new Octavia estate, but she blurted out that she'd never drive a Skoda!! I laughed but kept listening. He went on to say that she went for a Renault Megane instead. I was truly shocked! I can't believe that anyone living in the UK today still thinks that Renault has a better brand image than a Skoda. I just laughed and said good!

I'll admit that I'm a brand snob too though, and I'm prejudiced. I'd never go back to a Japanese car now, because I've got used to the interior build quality of a Skoda. I always loved Japanese cars before owning a Skoda. I couldn't believe how tacky and cheap the interior of my friends '04 Impreza WRX was when he lent it to me the first time. The same goes for the Suzuki Swift Sport, Mazda MX-5, Suzuki GV, Honda Civic Type R and S2000 that I've driven. They all feel cheap, so I'm now a snob when it comes to Jap brands!

My prejudice towards Ford and Vauxhall is that they are for commoners! I know it's wrong, but that's the image I get. When someone says Ford or Vauxhall to me, I just think council estate! Even though my dad used to own an insanely powerful turbocharged Orion, and various Sierra's.

Strangely I have less of a problem with the European based brands! Maybe I'm an auto-racist! I see Italian and French cars as unreliable and flimsy, but they have character and charm so I don't mind them too much. But Germany is where it's at for me, and in particular the VAG. All things considered, I think they just make the best cars in the world today.

Heil Hitler.................. :hi:

Heil Hitler.................. :hi:

Hahaha that's just what I was thinking when I was rambling! I've been brainwashed by German engineering!

Don't forget that we have a Yorkshireman to thank for VW today. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_Hirst

I feel sorry for the VW and Audi drivers really. I'm driving around in a car with an Audi engine, VW gearbox and VW suspension/steering/electronics. It must be annoying for them to see me in a cheaper car, but with identical kit.
