Time to move on?

Featured Replies

First things first...this isnt a "For Sale" ***FEELER*** thread. I genuinely just want some help making my mind up and Im hoping you guys and gals can help!

Basically I own 2 Skodas;

2005 55 Skoda Superb Edition 100 1.9tdi and a 2002 52 Skoda Octavia vRS WRC 1.8t number 100/100, the last ever made.

I have owned them for some time, and to be honest they are the best of everything when it comes to the Mk1 Superb and Mk1 Octavia. I love Skodas, and after owning VW's, Audis and Seats I know just how good they are for performance and value.

The thing is, I fancy a change and a recent back injury makes me wonder if I should get a 4x4 as I'm 6'6'' and entering and leaving the car is a little harder than it was. I genuinely dont know if selling would be a mistake though. I cannot find ANYTHING that even comes close to the Superb Edition 100 spec, and the Octavia WRC has to be one of the rarest cars in the UK today (one of a maximum of 23 left on the road!)

So I hope some of you guys can offer words of advice, and make me stick with the Skoda badge, or alternatively make any suggestions of what to go for? Sell one and keep the other?? I dont want to spend more than £6K on my next car.

Are my cars even going to sell in todays economic climate???

On another note, I havent found another amazing car forum like this.....well maybe ukmkivs! (I miss my Golf GTI days! haha).

(Posted this in the Superb forum too...due to the dual cars involved)

Hoping you can help,

Mike.

If you want a 4X4 look at a RAV4.........

Easy to sell your cars on? Depends on what you want from them....

Why the Rav buddy?

Hi Mike,

the WRC is very unique especially as its 100/100 and only 23 on the road too. I would be very reluctant to sell it if it was me, plus i think you wouldn't get the full value in the present climate.

The Superb on the other hand could go for more as diesels are always a good seller. Having owned alot of Subarus and driving all different models, i think you should consider a Forrester. There are various specs and engine types that could be had within your budget and there not a bad car at all. Also my old man drives a TD5 Discovery, not my cup of tea, but i have to say it is damm comfortable and has alot of toys.He has a bad back but loves the Disco on long journeys. There both 4x4's but the disco is the real deal.

In short i think the WRC must stay, its a very nice piece of Skoda history and can only appreciate in value. What other car you get is trickier ;)

You can get some nice equipment on toyotas and there pretty indestructible.

If I was you i would look for a diesel to replace the superb which fits what your looking for as that will get good money and keep the vrs for something a bit different and that you will be unlikely to have the chance to own again.

Thanks for the help guys, your opinions do help so please keep them coming.

I know what you mean about the WRC it is a very rare car and being 1 of 23 I think it has to be one of the rarest VAG cars in the UK today. (Take the VW Golf Mk4 Anniversary Gti for example....1800 examples in the UK!), top that off with the fact its number 100....means its that bit more special. My WRC was de-stickered by the dealer from supply, as were most of them. Its a shame it doesnt have the stickers, but I think it looks pretty cool in Candy white with matching Alloys. It turns so many heads! I see they are releasing a new WRC Fabia, although its not as exclusive as the Mk1 Octavia!

As for the Superb Edition 100? Its one of 200 in the UK (Total of 500 in the World), and I have tried to find something of similar spec, but all of the standard kit which includes a mixture of (Elegance and Exclusive things) Solar Sunroof, Nokia DSP Amp, (Oldskool) Sat Nav, 4 Heated Seats, Driver Memory, Rear Sunblind, Rear Sunset Privacy Glass, Split folding seats (rare on ealry Superbs), Umbrella, Exclusive Grey Leather....etc, etc....NOTHING compares unless you spend silly money. Even then I dont think you would have everything! Combine that with some pretty amazing MPG built on the Chinese VW Passat Platform with extended legroom (important for me as being 6'6'' I tend to crush rear passengers!) and again, its hard to beat!

Would love a Yeti, but they are too expensive at the moment. I had a 2005 Honda CRV but was unimpressed with its 4WD and poor MPG. I would love a BMW X5, as they seem to have come down in price to around £6000 these days. I like the idea of the VW Toureag too...but they cost a bit more.

Although I did love my Mk2 Octavia VRS in Race Blue.....maybe I shouldnt have sold it!!!!

Confused.com....lol

yeah maybe a 15 year old landcruiser?? might last longer than a new one! Dont think there as bad as they have been made out to be tbh

Must be difficult owning an irreplaceable car :p just keep them they sound quality!

Id keep the octy & if you want a 4 x 4 then sell the superb. :)

+1

not being funny but why the hell do you want a 4x4?

if you want a real one it has to be landy or something else like that which is poor on tarmac

if you want a softroader the forester can't be beaten

but unless you NEED the 4x4 traction you are wasting money because of poor mpg

an estate car could easily do the same job, but unless you absolutely cannot stand your current cars you will probably be disappointed

(430 if your're after newer) ... I can do distances and not walk like a crab afterwards !!! they also do a 4x4 ... ish ...

Before anyone chips in yes I know toyota owns lexus :) still good cars in my opinion but a tad thirsty ...

Thanks for the comments guys and gals. Im getting a much better response here than on the Superb forum. :giggle:

Sell the Octy and I can guarantee you will regret it. I'd love to have that motor... imagine busting it out of the garage in 10 years time...

...the looks and smiles from others would be priceless. Keep it.

Sometimes you only realise how much you like a car once it has gone.

Question is which one of your two cars would be harder to get back (or equivalent) if you realise you want it after all. Seems to me that the WRC would be the hardest to get another, especially as it is # 100.

the skoda is the best car I have owned so far, (had a few cars !! 33 I think over the years)

Its bad enough to find a nice low milage vrs estate, but finding a wrc will be like finding rockin house ****.

Its making sense people. Im going to keep the WRC! There is some interest in my Superb, so I may sell but only for the right money otherwise I will keep both. They are rare cars and its nice to have a matching Black and White pair! ;)

The only thing is.....if I keep them I really shouldnt modify.....I think that would detract from the appeal and value, am I right?

Its sooooo tempting, but I guess it helps saves money! LOL

Since you have a bad back, perhaps you might consider getting one of the better Recaro seats fitted to one of the cars. Keep the standard seat, to put back, in case you want to sell in the future.

Looking to swap the WRC for a Fabia vRS now!

If you have another change of heart :giggle: try an Octy Scout, weve found ours incredibly comfortable for a 4x4, We have done a couple of drives over 700 miles with only fuel stops & it was fine. We had a Mk 1 superb for 70000 miles so can compare the ride if not the toys on the edition 100

Why the Rav buddy?

Where I live a 4X4 is the best option for me.....

Regarding MPG, I managed 56 on a run. Not bad for a 2.2 Diesel.

Driving it like my vRS it will still manage 42.5 MPG. :)
