VAT increase and then some..

Featured Replies

Just checked out what my car would cost if I ordered it today- Superb Twindoor 1.6CR S in Rosso Brunello with Four heated seats, Cruise control and Rear sensors.

Original list price £18715 OTR (ordered via leasing company in early November). If ordered today price is £19610- a 4.6% increase (prices based on website as configurator has gone down again).

The VAT increase accounts for 2.1% of the increase (since the 2.5% increase is in VAT, not in price- something that prveiously cost £1 + VAT at 17.5 would be £1.175. Now with VAT at 20% cost is £1 + 20% =£1.20, increase in price is 1.20/1.175=2.1%)

This means there has been an underlying increase of about 2.5% on the products/accessories.

Economics mean now make this car and spec much less competative and if looking afresh I would need to consider downsizing or looking elsewhere- glad car is already on order

:'(

Indeed they have... sunset glass has gone from £210 to £250, metallic paint from £410 to £440 (i think), heated washer jets from £35 to £50 and the auto dimming mirror is up from £55 to £80. Oh, and I think the spare wheel kit has gone from something like £65 to £80 too. At least VAG have not forced Skoda to start changing the standard spec (yet).

The list price of my the car I have order has gone up around £1000. A 1.2 TSI Fabia SE has gone up £230.

There is a 20% discount (the equivalent of the VAT) on a lot of petrol models up to the end of March now though :o)

Thing is, mentioning the Superb is become less attractive on price vs spec doesn't take into account all the other manufacturers putting there prices up as well. Nothing has really changed in comparison to the rest of the market.

Agree here, you have to look at other manufacturers price hike as well & compare

SKODA are a business, not a charity, and, given the demand for the car, they can very easily increase prices.

My new car is somewhere, I don't know where, but due on my doorstep any day now!!!!!

Yep, have to agree, it's all relative :)

Doesn't matter, none of us will be able to afford a tank of fuel in a few years time emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

wonder if they will do an electric powered superb :giggle:

Caught the news recently and they were saying nearly EVERTHING is going up more that 2.5%, it was ranging from 4.5% to 20% over a wide variety of goods. Long live Ripp Off Britain

Skoda have also increased the retail prices across all models as they always increase prices in January, and removed diesels from the VAT free offer on some models. This is in addition to the increase in VAT, so you'll be paint about 4.5% more today than you did last week on car which did include VAT, or 22.5% more on a car which was previously VAT free and is not now. An Octy vRS CR now costs about 4K more than last week.
